Installation Guide for Windows 2000 RC1, RC2, RC3 and RTM (released-to-manufacturing)

There are three parts in this text file:
1. How to install the drivers?
2. How to unplug (eject) the USB device and plug it in again?
3. How to uninstall the drivers?


1. How to isntall the CAPI and miniport drivers in the Windows 2000?

   (1) Plug in the USB device, no matter the PC is powered on or off
   (2) When Windows detects the ISDN USB TA, specify the INF file in
       the driver installation diskette/CD to install the deivce.

   Note: You don't have to restart your computer to use CAPI and miniport
         services.

   If you are using RC1 or RC2, you have to "manually" update the miniport
   driver as below:
   (3) Go to "Device Manager" (throught Control Panel/System Property or
       Administrative Tools\Computer Management) and, in "Network adapters",
       you should find an "Unknown device".
   (4) Double click the "Unknown device" and switch to "Driver" tab.
   (5) Press "Update Driver" and "Next" twice.
   (6) Specify "INF" subdirectory in the Windows directory (default is
       "WinNT") to complete the driver update.
   (7) After that, you should see the "NDIS WAN Miniport Adapter" listed
       in Device Manager.


2. How to unplug (eject) the USB device and plug it in again?

   If you want to unplug the device you should follow the steps below:

   (1) Disable the "NDIS WAN Miniport Adapter" if it is enabled:
       Go to "Device Manager" (throught Control Panel/System Property or
       Administrative Tools\Computer Management) and, in "Network adapters",
       you should see "NDIS WAN Miniport Adapter".  Click "Disable" button
       to disable it. 

   (2) Double click the icon "Unplug or Eject Hardware" on the taskbar (in
       the right bottom of the Windows screen) and stop ISDN USB TA.

   (3) Unplug the device.

   If you want to use the USB device again, just plug it in.
   If you want to resume the virtual miniport device, you can go to
   Device Manager to enable it again. 


3.  How to uninstall the drivers?

    Just run "uninstal.exe" or "Uninstall DRV & UTL" in "ISDN Utility" folder
    to completely remove all the related files and registry.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
