INSTALLING WINDOWS SOUND DRIVERS
================================


REQUIREMENTS

     * HP OmniBook 5700 installed with Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 

     * HP OmniBook 5700 Sound drivers.  The drivers are located on the OmniBook
       hard disk in C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WFW\SOUND\DISK1 and DISK2 directories.
       These files are available after finishing the selection of Windows 95 or
       Windows for Workgroups during the pre-install process.  The files are
       also located on the HP OmniBook Recovery CD in the 
       \DRIVERS\WFW\SOUND\DISK1 and DISK2 directories.

Note: The Windows Sound drivers must be installed from floppy disk. The Sound 
      drivers are located in two subdirectories 
      C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WFW\DRIVERS\SOUND\DISK1 and ..\SOUND\DISK2.  Copy
      these directories to two floppy disks.


PROCEDURE

1. Start Windows

2. Insert the HP OmniBook 5700 Sound Drivers Disk in the A: drive

3. Choose the File menu then Run

4. Enter A:\SETUP and press <ENTER>.

5. Follow the instructions displayed. (choose the defaults). 

6. It will require several entries of the path to the DISK2 directory.

7. Exit Windows and Reboot.  When Windows starts, you should hear the default
   Windows sound and a Crystal Semiconductor wave file.

Note: Ensure the following lines where entered in your AUTOEXEC.BAT and 
      CONFIG.SYS

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
