-----------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------
              Overview
--------------------------------------
  I. Performing a new install
 II. Upgrading existing installations
III. Troubleshooting Tips

If you do not currently have a driver installed for the
WaveLAN/IEEE or ORiNOCO PC Card, you can follow the steps
described in
              "I. Performing a new install"
to install the TurboCell PC Driver.

If you have an existing PC Card driver installed, including:
  * Previous versions of the TurboCell PC Driver
  * ANY WaveLAN/IEEE PC Card driver
  * ANY ORiNOCO PC Card driver

You should follow the instructions under
              "II. Upgrading existing installations"
or uninstall your driver and then follow the instructions here.

--------------------------------------
  I. Performing a new install
--------------------------------------
To install the TurboCell PC Driver on a system that does not
currently have an ORiNOCO PC Card driver installed
   1. Make sure your ORiNOCO PC Card is NOT currently plugged in to
      your computer.
   2. In Windows, click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'
   3. In the Control Panel, open the 'Add New Hardware' control
      panel applet
   4. Click 'Next'. Windows will automatically detect any Plug-n-Play
devices you may have installed. Since you have not plugged in the
ORiNOCO PC Card yet, it will not detect that device. If it
detects any other device(s), Windows will install the drivers
for those devices, and then ask you if you want to continue.
You DO NOT want to finish, but you want to continue installing
      devices.
   5. Windows will then offer to look for other devices. Select the
'No, I want to select the hardware from a list' option and
      click 'Next'.
   6. The next dialog that appears will prompt you to choose which
hardware type. Select the 'Network Adapter' item and click
      'Next'.
   7. When the dialog appears, click on the 'Have Disk...'
      button
   8. Enter the full path to the location of the driver files
you have extracted. Make sure you specify the path to the
correct Operating System directory, for example:
          ... \TC_v7_2_0_620\Win95
   9. Follow the on-screen instructions
  10. Setup your TurboCell PC Driver and reboot your computer.

--------------------------------------
 II. Upgrading existing installations
--------------------------------------
In most cases, you can upgrade any existing TurboCell PC Driver
installations or standard 802.11 ORiNOCO PC Card drivers from
Lucent Technologies or Agere Systems as follows:
   1. Make sure your ORiNOCO PC Card is currently plugged in to
      your computer
   2. In Windows, click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'
   3. In the Control Panel, open the 'System' control panel applet
   4. Click on the 'Device Manager' tab
   5. Under 'Network Adapters', select
'WaveLAN/IEEE PC Card' or 'ORiNOCO PC Card'
   6. Click on the 'Properties' button
   7. When the Properties dialog is displayed, click on the
      'Driver' tab
   8. Click on the 'Update Driver' button
   9. When prompted, select the option to
'Display a list of the known drivers for this device...'
      and click the 'Next' button
  10. When the next dialog appears, click on the 'Have Disk...'
      button
  11. Enter the full path to the location of the driver files
you have extracted. Make sure you specify the path to the
correct Operating System directory, for example:
          ... \TC_v7_2_0_620\Win95
  12. Follow the on-screen instructions

If the above steps do not work, you will need to uninstall your
existing driver using the 'Add/Remove Hardware' wizard or the
'Uninstall/Remove' button in the Device Manager screen to remove
your existing driver. Then restart your computer and follow the steps
described in
   I. Performing a new install

III. Troubleshooting Tips
--------------------------------------
  * After selecting the .INF file, you will be prompted to
select the appropriate driver for your hardware. The
following three options will be available to you:
-- ORiNOCO PC Card (5 Volt)
           -- ORiNOCO Integrated Card
           -- ORiNOCO Mini PCI Card

Most customers have 5 volt ORiNOCO PC Card hardware,
so select "ORiNOCO PC Card (5 Volt)", unless you have an
    embedded ORiNOCO radio.

  * When installing the driver into a Windows desktop PC
using an ISA- or PCI-to-PCMCIA adapter, you MUST
correctly install the adapter card BEFORE attempting
to install the TurboCell PC Driver. Failure to
correctly install the adapter card before installing
the TurboCell PC Driver will cause the TurboCell PC
Driver to be installed incorrectly, causing
    unpredictable results.

    Observed symptoms include:
    - Not recognizing the ORiNOCO PC Card when it is inserted
      into the PCMCIA slot.
    - Automatically detecting the ORiNOCO PC Card when it
is inserted, and allowing you to install the driver,
but the driver does not load correctly when the
      card is inserted.
    - Windows Device Manager reporting that 'The device is
disabled, not installed correctly, or is not plugged in'.
    - On Windows 2000, driver may appear to install correctly.
The Client Manager may report a normal connection when in
IEEE 802.11 client mode, but always report 'No ISP Base
Station in Range' when in TurboCell mode. In both cases,
the Windows networking cable connection indicator ALWAYS
      reports 'Network Cable Unplugged'.

  * I/O Port conflicts under MS-Windows 95.

When your ORiNOCO Card's installation completed successfully,
but it does not become operational (Client Manager reports
"ORiNOCO card not operational"), you are advised to try a
different I/O Port value. The Windows Resource Manager does
not always detect a conflict. This problem has been noticed
    under Windows 95 OSR 0.

  * ORiNOCO Add/Edit profile does not appear upon installation

The ORiNOCO driver requires Common Control DLL's 4.0 or later.

You can resolve this error by either:
	  * Installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later,
	  * (Re-)installing the latest Client Manager, or
	  * Run the patch 'comupd50.exe' included in the main ZIP file

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
