                    ARCDRIVE PCMCIA ATAPI/EIDE CDROM DRIVE

1 - AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION

In order to use a ARCDRIVE ATAPI/EIDE controller with OS/2, you must first
install the CDROM drivers for CDROM drives. These drivers are included with
OS/2, but were probably not installed when you first set up OS/2 on your
computer. DOS support is usually automatically installed in the \os2\mdos
directory, so you will see the virtual device drivers in that directory
(VCDROM.SYS, etc). Do not delete these files if you want to use DOS as well.

To install the ARCDRIVE CDROM support drivers on a running OS/2 system, you
need to click on the 'SYSTEM SETUP' icon in the 'OS/2 SYSTEM' folder. From
there, proceed in two steps as follows :

STEP 1 : Selective Install

Click on the 'SELECTIVE INSTALL' icon and select OK from the first screen.
A second screen of options will appear, you must select to install both the
PCMCIA and the CDROM supports :

- For PCMCIA, select the option, 'PCMCIA Support' and follow the instructions
given in the 'User's Guide to OS/2 Warp' (Chapter 4. Customizing Your System,
PCMCIA). It is NOT NECESSARY to select to install the 'PCMCIA Hard Disk' as
the related driver is included in the ARCDRIVE distribution diskette.

- For CDROM, select the option, 'CDROM Device Support', scroll down to the
bottom of the list of drives, and select the option 'OTHER' in the list. Click
'OK' to start the installation.

STEP 2 : Device Driver Install

Click now on the 'DEVICE DRIVER INSTALL' icon.

Insert the installation diskette in drive A: when requested and follow the
instructions on the screen. This procedure is also described in Chapter 4 of
the 'User's Guide to Warp'.

You are offered the choice between three installation procedures:

- ARCDRIVE : PCMCIA CDROM Only (no PCMCIA hard disk). This will install the
ARCDRIVE drivers for the ARCDRIVE CDROM drive only.

- ARCDRIVE : PCMCIA Hard Drive Only (no PCMCIA CDROM drive). This will install
the ARCDRIVE drivers for the ARCDRIVE HARD DRIVE drive only.

- ARCDRIVE : PCMCIA CDROM & HD drivers. This will install the ARCDRIVE drivers
for both the ARCDRIVE CDROM and HARD DRIVE drives.

Select the option corresponding to your configuration.

2 - MANUAL INSTALLATION

The two ARCDRIVE drivers in the installation diskette must be copied to the
OS/2 BOOT directory:

    COPY A:ARCDRIVE.ADD C:\OS2\BOOT
    COPY A:ARCIDECD.FLT C:\OS2\BOOT

The two ARCDRIVE drivers should be installed in the config.sys file as follows:

    ....
    BASEDEV=PCMCIA.SYS /P
    BASEDEV=ARCDRIVE.ADD
    DEVICE=\OS2\MDOS\VPCMCIA.SYS

	....
    DEVICE=\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
    IFS=\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /Q
    DEVICE=\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS
    BASEDEV=ARCIDECD.FLT

    ....

Apart from the two ARCDRIVE drivers, all the other files listed above are
supplied by IBM for CDROM support under OS/2 Warp.

All of the above drivers are necessary for CD and HD support. They should be
inserted in your CONFIG.SYS. Some of these drivers might already be present
in your CONFIG.SYS file. All drivers except for the two ARCDRIVE drivers are
usually placed in the OS2 directory during the initial OS2 installation.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

If the standard PCMCIA hard disk driver, PCM2ATA.ADD, is already installed,
'BASEDEV=PCM2ATA.ADD' in your CONFIG.SYS file, you must be careful that the
related statement in CONFIG.SYS appears before that of the ARCDRIVE.ADD, as
shown below:
    ....
    BASEDEV=PCMCIA.SYS /P
    BASEDEV=PCM2ATA.ADD
    BASEDEV=ARCDRIVE.ADD
    DEVICE=\OS2\MDOS\VPCMCIA.SYS
	....

If you do not use any PCMCIA hard disk drive apart from the ARCDRIVE HD,
REMove this statement from your CONFIG.SYS file.
