1. ScanGear CS-U 5.7 Features
ScanGear CS-U 5.7 (hereafter referred to as "ScanGear CS-U")
is a 32-bit TWAIN-compliant scanner driver for the Canon
CanoScan N650U/N656U scanners and Canon CanoScan N1220U scanner.
When this driver is selected from within a TWAIN-compliant
software application program, one of these scanners can be
used to scan image data.
2. What You Need
Required Hardware
o CanoScan N650U/N656U Scanners, and CanoScan N1220U Scanner.
o USB port, Universal Serial Bus Specification Version 1.1
compliant
o Pentium CPU or higher IBM or IBM compatible PC.
(For Windows 2000 Professional, Pentium 133MHz or higher
recommended.)
o 32 MB RAM (64 MB more recommended)
o Free disk space, at least 50 MB. The amount of space required
depends on the scanning area and the Color Mode or Resolution
setting. (Color images scanned at higher resolution require
more storage space.)
o Minimum requirement for monitor: 800 x 600 resolution, 256-
color (higher resolution with HighColor recommended)
Required Software
o Microsoft Windows 98, Windows Millennium, 2000 Professional
or Windows XP
o TWAIN-compliant application software
3. A General Tip on Usage
o Run only one application at a time which uses ScanGear CS-U ;
do not open more than one application that uses the ScanGear
CS-U scanner driver. Also, do not open ScanGear CS-U more
than once to acquire an image in the same application.
o If you scan a very large image at high resolution, some
applications may determine that there is not enough disk
space to scan and save the image and return an error.
o In Windows 2000 when the system file is in NTFS format,
occasionally the TWAIN data source may not open correctly.
For security reasons, the TWAIN module cannot be written to
the winnt directory. For details, contact your system
administrator.
o Depending on the application (e.g., Wang Imaging), the TWAIN
user interface may be hidden. If this is the case, find out
how you can make it appear from the application manual, and
make the appropriate setting changes.
o Always close the ScanGear CS-U main window before you exit the
parent application program.
o For Windows 2000, it is required that the system administrator
install or uninstall ScanGear CS-U.
o Certain personal computers (including laptops) may not restart
correctly from standby mode when the scanner is attached. If
this occurs, please reboot the computer.
o The scanner button may not operate after you install the
driver. In this case, restart the system.
4. Running ScanGear CS-U with Specific Applications
o If more than one scanner exists on the system when using
Caere PageKeeper or Caere OmniPage Pro, set the scanner being
used as the default scanner in the Caere Scan Manager in the
Control Panel.
5. Using the scanner after switching users in Windows XP
o The scanner may be unable to operate if a large portion of
the system resources, such as the memory, is being used by
another user. In this case, close any programs that are open
in the other user environment before scanning.
