Subject: How to make the USB scanner running?

First of all, you must get the USB environment ready. i.e:

================================================================
(1) Host computer must support USB feature.
    If you are using the early Pentium machine(using Intel PCI ChipSet 430FX(82371FB), 430MX(82371MX)), your system cannot run USB device. But you can add on USB host controller card in your system to support USB device(also work with 486 system). If you are using another Pentium machine (using 430VX(82371SB), 430HX(82371SB), 430TX(82371AB)), Pentium Pro machine (using 440FX(82371SB)), Pentium II machine (using 440LX(82371AB)), your system are capable of runing USB device. If your system doesnot have a USB connector, call your Mother Board provider to get one.

[Note]
    There are many providers that have USB Host Controller, including Intel(as above),SiS,NEC,CMD,NS,OPTi,Symbios,ALi,VIA, Compaq, and they are grouped by "Universal Host Controller" and "Open Host Controller".

(2) Install the O.S that support USB.

O.S				USB support
==================		===========
Windows 95 retail version	No
Windows 95 OSR 1.0(Rev. A)	No
Windows 95 OSR 2.0(Rev. B)	No
Windows 95 OSR 2.1(rev. B)	Yes (upgrade by running usbsupp.exe in OSR2.0)
Windows 98 			Yes
Windows NT 4.0			No
Windows NT 5.0			Yes
==================		===========

Q: How can I know the version of Windows 95?
A: If you setup your Win95 and using Serial Number like(4119856437), your system is retail version.
If you setup your Win95 and using Serial Number like(26495-OEM-0004782-75026), your system is OSR version. And you can tell OSR1.0, OSR2.0 by (Start ->Settings -> Control Panel -> System ->General Tab) system infomation. If you see "4.00.950A", you are running OSR1.0. If you see "4.00.950B", you are running OSR2.0.

After the O.S (WinNT5.0, Win98, Win95 OSR2.1) is properly setuped, you can see Universal serial bus controller(Start-> Settings-> Control Panel -> System ->Device Manager Tab). And It contains at least two items: USB host controller, USB Root Hub.
(*)If you cannot see these two items working properly, you should enable USB controller by BIOS setting.
(**)If you are using Win95 OSR2.1 and Intel PCI ChipSet, you should run the "82371xB INF Update Installer".
   Because usbsupp.exe cannot know the 430TX and later, you have to download from:
http://developer.intel.com/design/pcisets/inf_download.htm and you will find update installer program.

(3) Prepare the USB scanner and start Plug-and-Play.
    SPOT support two solutions for USB scanner. One is USB-to-EPP converter cable + EPP scanner, and the other one is pure USB scanner.

Q1: How to upgrade the EPP scanner to EPP/USB scanner?
A1: Just do the following steps:
(a) Plug the USB-to-EPP converter cable to a free USB port (maybe from the root hub on the system, or external Hub).
(b) System will prompt you with a Plug and Play Dialog for unknown device, then you just put this disk into floppy drive and press "Finish" button. If the dialog prompt you with a message "cannot find PV8630.sys", you should change the path to the floppy drive. After minidriver is ready, then you should install the Twain driver for the scanner.
(c) Power On the scanner and attach the scanner cable to USB-to-EPP converter.
(d) Now you can	scan by the interface of USB-to-EPP converter cable, or you can uplug the converter cable and use parallel port interface to scan.

Q2: How about the pure USB scanner?
A2: Just do the following steps:
(a) Plug the USB cable to a free USB port.
(b) Power On the scanner.
(c) System will prompt you with a Plug and Play Dialog for unknown device, then you just put this disk into floppy drive and press "Finish" button. If the dialog prompt you with a message "cannot find PV8630.sys", you should change the path to the floppy drive. After minidriver is ready, then you should install the Twain driver for the scanner.
(d) Now you can scan by the interface of USB.
================================================================

================================================================
(4) About image of color adjusted
    If you scan a image from scanner , The color balance of image is not satisfying , You can adjust the Gamma table of user interface to get satisfier color balance .
