Introduction This readme file will guide you in using a set of files to upgrade your printer and personality card firmware. The HP Printer Firmware Upgrade Utility v1.1 can be used to upgrade firmware in both locally and remotely connected (locally shared, JetDirect, LPR or Standard TCP/IP) printers. ii. Download Instructions 1. Create a new folder on the hard drive in which to save the downloaded files. a. Right-click the Start button and then select Explore. b. Click Local Disk (C:). c. Click File, New and then Folder. d. Type a name for the new folder and then press Enter. 2. Download the firmware package bij3000_Base65.zip (Windows). The latest firmware for the printer can be downloaded from the Internet at http://www.hp.com. Click here to go directly to the Downloads and Drivers page for the printer to download the latest firmware. 3. Double-click the firmware package and extract the files to the same folder, using a ZIP utility such as PKZip or WinZip. 4. Check that you have all the following files before proceeding. Upgrade Instructions Windows To upgrade (flash) the printer firmware, you can use either the HP Firmware Download Utility (PRINTDRT.EXE) or HP Web Jetadmin. Use the file with .rfu extension For information about using HP Web Jetadmin, see the documentation available for HP Web Jetadmin. 1. Make sure that the printer is turned on. 2. Double-click the application named “PRINTDRT.EXE” to open the HP Firmware Download Utility. 3. Navigate to the directory containing the extracted files using the Browse option in the screen and select the firmware file with the .fmw extension. 4. Click Open. 5. Use the checkboxes on the left to select the printer ports that you wish to upgrade. Multiple printers may be selected at the same time. 6. Click Download. 7. The Printer will start the flashing process and the following messages will appear in the printer's LCD control panel: “Receiving upgrade”, “Performing upgrade”, “***********”, “Initializing…”, “Checking printer”, “Processing Job”, and then “Ready”. 8. NOTE: Do not interrupt the printer while flashing is in progress. The whole process will take about 15 minutes. 9. You can start printer operations once the “Ready” message appears on the LCD. iv. Key Fixes & Enhancements 1. Issue: 49.4C02 Error code is flashed in the LCD when printing with postscript files. Resolution: Fixed. 2. Issue: PDF file does not print correctly and causes PostScript error page. Resolution: Fixed. 3. Issue: Printer prints slowly with PCL5. Resolution: Fixed. 4. Issue: Printer prints slowly while using a PowerPoint application. Resolution: Fixed 5. Issue: Bar code not printing correctly. Resolution: Fixed 6. Issue: Blank printing for HPGL command. Resolution: Fixed 7. Issue: 49.FF04 Error code is flashed in the LCD. Resolution: Fixed 8. Issue: Some strings are not in the Dutch language. Resolution: Fixed 9. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
