README - DLGUDMA

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

This MODULE of the Data Lifeguard Tools program searches for and verifies
the UDMA capability of specific Western Digital hard drives. If the drive
is UDMA 66/100 capable you can enable or disable this feature with this
    utility.

DLGUDMA also allows users to take advantage of our Data Lifeguard Lifeline
feature. Data Lifeguard Lifeline establishes a passive, point-to-point
communications link with Western Digital's valued customers so that we
can quickly communicate critical information that may impact our customers.
You can find out more about the Data Lifeguard Lifeline feature on the front
page of our website at; http://www.wdc.com/products/drives/lifeline.html.

TO RUN THE PROGRAM:

    BACK UP DATA:
Before running the program, it is recommended that users back up all data
for all hard drives. The DLGUDMA test does not overwrite any data on the
drives and if used properly should not result in data loss, but the
regular backing up of data is always recommended.

STORE THE PROGRAM ON FLOPPY DRIVE:
The program must be run from a floppy drive, so if downloaded, copy all
files included in the zip to a formatted bootable floppy diskette in A:.
All files must be included for the program to function properly.

    ENABLING UDMA 66/100 CAPABILITY:
All of the following conditions must be met before your system will be
    able to utilize Ultra ATA/66:

      1. Your host system must support UDMA 66/100 (Motherboard chipset,
BIOS or add in Controller Card).
      2. A 40 Pin, 80 conductor cable must be attached between the host
          system and the hard drive.
      3. Your operating must be enabled for DMA transfers

'capable' of UDMA 66/100 and if that feature is 'enabled'. Hit enter
to select a drive and then type <y> to enable or disable the feature on
    supported drives.

The DLGUDMA utility will support and recognize up to 8 hard drives.

Enabling or disabling this feature on a selected drive can take up to
30 seconds. When the changes have been performed, the 'enabled' status
