3/9/97 Installing IR Monitor for Windows 95 ------------------------------------ When installing IR Monitor, you'll need to complete the following three steps: * Remove existing IrDA support. * Set up IR COM ports. * Install IR Monitor. To remove existing IrDA support ------------------------------- 1. From Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs. 2. If available, select Infrared Support for Windows 95 Version 2.0, then click Add/Remove. 3. Restart the computer when prompted. To set up COM ports for IrDa support ------------------------------------ 1. From Control Panel, double-click System. 2. Click Device Manager. 3. Check the Ports (COM & LPT) section of Device Manager for Generic Ir Serial Port (COM2). This must be set to COM2. -or- If Generic IrDA Compatible Device appears, remove it and reboot the OmniBook. Windows should then find the Generic IR Serial Port. 4. After the OmniBook reboots, repeat step 3 to check the Ports (COM & LPT) section of Device Manager again for Generic Ir Serial Port (COM2). Important If you still see a setting for the Generic IrDA Compatible Device, copy c:\omnibook\drivers\win95\irda\msports.inf to the c:\windows\inf directory. Then remove the Generic IrDA Compatible Device and reboot the OmniBook. 5. Generic Ir Serial Port (COM2) appears in Device Manager, check it for the following resources: Interrupt Request 03 Input/Output Range 2F8-2FF Direct Memory Access 03 6. If COM2 is present but the resources are wrong, highlight COM2 and press the Remove button. If COM2 is not present or its resources are wrong, use Regedit to remove existing COM2 references in the Registry and reboot so Windows will do a hardware search to rediscover it. To install IR Monitor for Windows 95 ------------------------------------ 1. Run c:\omnibook\drivers\win95\irda\setup.exe. 2. Choose National Semiconductor for the manufacturer. 3. Choose COM2 when prompted for the COM port. 4. Choose COM4 and LPT3 as the virtual IR devices (the default). If a dialog box appears asking if you want to keep the existing version of SERIAL.VXD, choose No. 5. Click Finish to exit the setup program. 6. Run c:\omnibook\drivers\win95\irda\fastir.bat and close the DOS window it generates. 7. Reboot the OmniBook. 8. From Control Panel, double-click IR. Note The infrared hardware is disabled when the OB 2000/5700 is docked. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
