Windows 95 4.00.950a Installation Instructions ---------------------------------------------- To prepare the OmniBook for Windows 95 4.00.950a installation ------------------------------------------------------------- The Windows 95 4.00.950a installation requires the hard disk to be formatted. Follow these steps to format the hard disk and install Windows 95 4.00.950a from a CD-ROM drive. 1. Power down the OmniBook by first shutting down Windows and then pressing the Off button located on the left side of the OmniBook. 2. If you have an internal CD-ROM drive, connect the floppy disk drive to the OmniBook's parallel port and install the CD-ROM drive in the OmniBook. -or- If you have a SCSI CD-ROM drive and a docking system, connect the SCSI CD-ROM drive to the docking system and install the floppy disk drive in the OmniBook. -or- If you have a PC card or Parallel Port CD-ROM drive, connect the PC card or parallel CD-ROM drive and install the floppy disk drive in the OmniBook. See "To set up a PC card or parallel port CD-ROM drive" in the Setup and Installation manual. 3. Connect the ac adapter to the OmniBook. 4. Press the blue On/Suspend button to restart the OmniBook. 5. After the system finishes booting, insert a formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive. 6. Create a Support Utility disk by running MAKEDISK.BAT from the \RECOVER\BOOTDISK\ directory on the Recovery CD. 7. Create a directory on the A: drive called A:\CDROM 8. Copy the files in C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WFW\CDROM to A:\CDROM. These files are also located on the Recovery CD in the D:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WFW\CDROM directory. 9. With the Support Utility disk from steps 6 - 8 in the floppy disk drive, restart the OmniBook with one of the following methods: In Windows for Workgroups, press Ctrl+Alt+Del. -or- In Windows 95, from the Start menu click Shut Down, Restart the Computer. 10. When prompted by the boot menu, select Exit to MS-DOS. 11. Format the hard disk by typing FORMAT C: /S /U 12. Type A: CD \CDROM TOSH 13. Follow the instructions on the screen to install CD-ROM support. Install all files in the C:\CDROM directory. Allow the install program to change CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT. 14. Copy XCOPY.EXE from the Support Utility disk to C:\CDROM. Type COPY A:\DOS\XCOPY.EXE C:\CDROM 15. Remove the Support Utility disk from the floppy disk drive. 16. Insert the OmniBook 2000/5700 Recovery CD, then press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot from the hard disk. 17. Copy the Windows 95 drivers from the Recovery CD. Type D: CD \OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95 C:\CDROM\XCOPY *.* C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\ /E 18. Rename AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. Type C: CD \ RENAME AUTOEXEC.BAT AUTOEXEC.OLD RENAME CONFIG.SYS CONFIG.OLD 19. Do not reboot the OmniBook. If you need to reboot, restore AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS from AUTOEXEC.OLD and CONFIG.OLD, then reboot. To install Windows 95 4.00.950a ------------------------------- 1. Insert the Windows 95 installation CD in the CD-ROM drive. 2. Type D:\SETUP, then press Enter. Windows 95 setup performs a routine check on the system. 3. Windows 95 setup begins to load files onto the system, then displays the Welcome to Windows 95 Setup screen. Click Continue. 4. Click Yes to agree to the Software License Agreement. 5. Click Next to accept Collecting Information about Your Computer on the Windows 95 Setup Wizard screen. 6. Click Next to accept the default directory of C:\WINDOWS or enter a different directory. 7. Click Typical on the Setup Options screen, then click Next. 8. Enter the Product Identification Number (11195-OEM-0310021-81354), then click Next. 9. Enter the User Information--your Name and Company, then click Next. 10. The Analyzing Your Computer screen will prompt for detecting devices. Do not detect any Network, Sound, MIDI, or Video Capture Card devices; just click Next. 11. The Get Connected Screen will prompt you for additional components. After your selection, click Next. 12. The Windows Components screen will prompt you to install the most common components (recommended). Choose your favorite, then click Next. 13. If you want to create a Startup Disk, click Yes, then click Next. Otherwise, click No, click Next, and skip to step 17. 14. The Setup Wizard is now copying files. Insert a blank disk into the A: drive when requested, then click Next. 15. Remove the floppy disk and click OK when the copy is finished. 16. Label the disk "Windows 95 Setup Boot Disk". 17. Click Next to start Copying Windows 95 Files to Your Computer. 18. Click Finish when the Setup Wizard displays the Finishing Setup message. The OmniBook 2000/5700 restarts Windows 95. 19. The Windows 95 Setup Wizard will now configure Control Panel, Programs on the Start Menu, Windows Help, MS-DOS Program Settings, and Time Zone. Enter any changes when the system displays the Time Zone screen. Then click Close. If you chose Microsoft Exchange, enter the information or click Cancel to enter it later. When prompted to install a printer, click Cancel. Set up the printers later after the CD-ROM drivers are loaded. 20. Click OK to restart the OmniBook. 21. Windows prompts you with the Welcome Screen. Click Close. 22. Click Start, Run. Type SYSEDIT, then click OK. Verify that AUTOEXEC.BAT does not exist and the CONFIG.SYS file is empty, then close the application. NOTES ----- The Windows 95 4.00.950a Installation will have the following unknowns and conflicts in the Control Panel, Device Manager: Other devices: Joystick, MPU401, Sound, Sound Control PCMCIA socket: PCIC or compatible PCMCIA controllers not enabled To copy new .INF files and drivers for Windows 95 4.00.950a ----------------------------------------------------------- 1. From the Start menu, click Programs, MS-DOS Prompt. You should enlarge the MS-DOS window at this time to prevent microfont eye strain. 2. Type CD C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\950AONLY COPY *.INF C:\WINDOWS\INF 3. Answer YES to overwrite the old .INF files with the new .INF files. 4. Copy the PCMCIA Driver files. Type COPY *.VXD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 5. Type REGEDIT SYSOFT.REG 6. Information will be entered into the registry. Click OK. 7. Type Exit to exit MS-DOS prompt. 8. From the Start menu, click Shut Down, Yes to shut down the OmniBook. 9. After Windows shuts down, press the Off button located on the left side of the OmniBook. Note: If the floppy disk drive cable is blocking the Off button, you can remove the floppy disk drive at this time. 10. When the battery icon stops flashing on the OmniBook Status Panel, press the blue On/Suspend button to restart the OmniBook. To remove unknown devices from Windows 95 4.00.950a --------------------------------------------------- 1. From the Start menu, click Settings, Control Panel. 2. From Control Panel, double-click System. 3. Click the Device Manager tab. 4. Double-click Other Devices. 5. Click the Joystick icon 6. Click Remove, then OK to remove this device from the system. 7. Double-click on Other Devices and use the procedure from steps 12 and 13 to remove the MPU401, Sound, and Sound Control. Note: The joystick and audio hardware removal may cause the OmniBook to display a blue screen with a message: Windows fatal exception. If this occurs, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the OmniBook and then repeat the step where the blue screen occurred. The error will be corrected during the next hardware detection. 8. Leave Device Manager and Control Panel open. From the Start menu, click Shut Down, Yes to shut down the OmniBook. 9. After Windows shuts down, press the Off button located on the left side of the OmniBook. 10. When the battery icon stops flashing on the OmniBook Status Panel, press the blue On/Suspend button to restart the OmniBook. To install Windows 95 4.00.950a OmniBook sound and joystick drivers ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Windows 95 Setup will detect the Sound device. 2. Select Driver From Disk Provided By Hardware Manufacturer, then click OK. 3. Type C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\SOUND, then click OK. If the OmniBook prompts you for the Windows 95 CD-ROM, enter D:\WIN95 for the location of the Windows 95 CD-ROM. The Joystick, Crystal PnP, Sound Control, and MPU401 will be detected and installed automatically. To remove conflicting devices from Windows 95 4.00.950a ------------------------------------------------------- 1. From Control Panel, double-click System. 2. Click the Device Manager tab. 3. Select each of the PCMCIA socket devices and click Remove to remove them. Note: The PCMCIA hardware removal may cause the OmniBook to display a blue screen with a message: Windows FATAL EXCEPTION. If this occurs, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the OmniBook. The error will be corrected during the next hardware detection. 4. Leave Device Manager and Control Panel open. From the Start menu, click Shut Down, Yes to shut down the OmniBook. 5. After Windows shuts down, press the Off button located on the left side of the OmniBook. 6. When the battery icon stops flashing on the OmniBook Status Panel, press the blue On/Suspend button to restart the OmniBook. To install Windows 95 4.00.950a OmniBook drivers ------------------------------------------------ 1. Windows 95 Setup will detect the PCMCIA hardware and display New Hardware Found. 2. From Control Panel, double-click System. 3. Click the Device Manager tab. 4. Double-click Hard Disk Controllers and remove the Opti Dual PCI IDE Controller. 5. When prompted to restart the computer, click No. 6. Leave Device Manager and Control Panel open. From the Start menu, click Shut Down, Yes to shut down the OmniBook. 7. After Windows shuts down, press the Off button located on the left side of the OmniBook. 8. When the battery icon stops flashing on the OmniBook Status Panel, press the blue On/Suspend button to restart the OmniBook. 9. Windows detects new hardware and prompts you to restart the OmniBook. Click Yes to restart. The hardware configuration will be complete at this time and all hardware conflicts fixed. If you have a CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive, the CD-ROM autorun mechanism may launch the autorun application (if one exists on the CD-ROM) at this time. If this happens, close the autorun application. To install Windows 95 video drivers ----------------------------------- 1. From Control Panel, double-click Display. 2. Click Settings, then click Change Display Type. 3. Click Adapter Type Change, then click Have Disk. 4. Enter C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\VIDEO, then click OK. 5. Select Chips and Tech. 65554 PCI, then click OK. 6. Click Monitor Type Change 7. With Standard Monitor Types selected as the manufacturer, select the Laptop Display Panel (800x600) model or the Laptop Display Panel (1024x768) model if you have an XGA display. Then click OK. 8. Click Close in Change Display Type window. 9. Select the Desktop area of 800x600 pixels (1024x768 if you have an XGA display) by moving the slider. 10. Choose a color palette. 11. Click Close in Display Properties, then click Yes to restart. To install SCSI drivers for the docking system ---------------------------------------------- The following procedure is only necessary if you are using an OmniBook Docking System. 1. Copy the file AMSINT.MPD from C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\950AONLY to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS 2. Answer Yes to overwrite the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS\AMSINT.MPD with the new AMSINT.MPD file. 3. From the Start menu, click Shut Down, Restart the Computer, Yes to restart the OmniBook. To install HP User Tools and other HP applications -------------------------------------------------- 1. From the Recovery CD, go to the \OMNIBOOK\HPUTILS\DISK1 directory. 2. Run SETUP.EXE 3. Select the applications you want to install, then click Install Now. 4. Click Restart to complete the installation. To install the OmniBook Desktop Management Interface ---------------------------------------------------- 1. From the Start menu, click Run. 2. Type C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\DMI\DISK1\SETUP Follow the DMI Installation instructions on the screen. Installing Windows 95 Infrared Support -------------------------------------- To set the infrared port to COM2 -------------------------------- The infrared port must be set to COM2. This can be changed, if necessary, by pressing the F2 key to start the System Configuration Utility (SCU) while the system is booting. 1. From the Start menu, click Shut Down, Restart the Computer, Yes to restart the OmniBook. 2. When prompted by a boot message, press F2 to start the SCU. 3. From the Input/Output menu, choose COM Ports. 4. Set the IR Port to COM2, then press ENTER. 5. From the Exit menu, and choose Save and Exit. To copy new .inf files for IR ----------------------------- 1. From the Start menu, click Programs, MS-DOS Prompt. 2. Type XCOPY C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\IRDA\*.INF C:\WINDOWS\INF 3. Answer YES to overwrite any old .INF files with new .INF files. 4. Close the MS-DOS Prompt window. To remove a previously installed IR communications driver --------------------------------------------------------- You must always remove any previously installed version of the IR communications driver. 1. From Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs. 2. Click Infrared Support for Windows 95 Version xx if it appears in the list, then click Add/Remove. 3. When prompted, choose Yes to reboot. To ensure that COM2 shows up correctly in the Device Manager ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. From Control Panel, double-click System. 2. Click the Device Manager tab. 3. Double-click Ports (COM & LPT). The Ports (COM & LPT) section of Device Manager must show Generic Ir Serial Port (COM2). !! _NOTE_ !! It MUST say (COM2) to work! If Generic IrDA Compatible Device appears, then remove it and restart the computer. It should discover a Generic IR Serial Port. Choose the default Windows driver and recheck this step when Windows 95 is done finding things. If it rediscovers a Generic IrDA Compatible Device then copy C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\IRDA\MSPORTS.INF to the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory, remove the "Generic IrDA Compatible Device" and try again. 4. After Generic Ir Serial Port (COM2) appears, double-click it, click the Resources tab, and check that it has the following resources: Interrupt Request 03 Input/Output Range 02F8 - 02FF Direct Memory Access 03 5. If COM2 is present but the resources are wrong, close the COM2 Properties window, highlight COM2, and press the Remove button. 6. If COM2 is not present or its resources were wrong, use Regedit to remove existing COM2 references in the Registry and reboot so Windows will do a hardware search to rediscover it. To install IR Monitor for Windows 95 ------------------------------------ 1. From the Start menu, click Run. 2. Type C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\IRDA\SETUP.EXE 3. The Add Infrared Device Wizard starts. Click Next. 4. Select National Semiconductor for the manufacturer. Click Next. 5. Select Generic Ir Serial Port (COM2) as the physical port. Click Next. 6. Select COM4 and LPT3 as the simulated (virtual) infrared devices (Use default ports). Click Next. If a dialog box appears asking if you want to keep the existing version of SERIAL.VXD, choose No. 7. Click Finish to exit the setup program. 8. From the Start menu, click Run. 9. Type C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\IRDA\FASTIR.BAT 10. Close the DOS window generated by step 9. 11. From the Start menu, click Shut Down, Restart the Computer, Yes to restart the OmniBook. To run IR Monitor for Windows 95 -------------------------------- 1. Double-click on the Infrared icon in Control Panel to start IR. To remove infrared hardware from a dock configuration ----------------------------------------------------- 1. The infrared hardware is disabled when the OmniBook 2000/5700 is docked. You may need to use the Device Manager to uncheck the Dock 1 check box under Device Usage for the following infrared devices: Infrared: National Semiconductor Infrared Driver Ports (COM & LPT): Generic Ir Serial Port (COM2) --- End of Windows 95 4.00.950a instructions ---Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
