Welcome to QuickBeam IR

QuickBeam lets you exchange files as easily as if you were
changing channels with a TV Remote control (although we do
not encourage you to become a "data-potato"...).

Before using QuickBeam, make sure your system has the
Microsoft IrDA infrared software installed if you are running
Windows 95, or the HP/Counterpoint IrDA software if you are
running Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups. The
HP/Counterpoint IrDA infrared protocol software is available
from Counterpoint's web site at www.countersys.com.

You may run QuickBeam from the Programs section	under the
Windows 95 Start button, from its program group, by putting
it in the startup group where it will run whenever you start
Windows, or by running SQUIRT.EXE directly by another method
of your choice.

On Windows 95 you may find it convenient to create a shortcut to
QuickBeam on the desktop, and then to put QuickBeam into
the Microsoft Office toolbar, or Dashboard, if you have one of
those products--then it is always handy.

Don't be surprised when you first run QuickBeam, it's small--
communications programs don't need to take over your entire
display! QuickBeam is designed to be unintrusive so it can
always be running and ready for action.

The Help screen will also come up the first time you run
QuickBeam. Take a moment to look it over.

QuickBeam stays on top of other windows when you switch
applications (to the Explorer or File Manager for instance),
so that it is easy to drag and drop files for beaming.
QuickBeam is small enough to just drag to one side so you can
see everything you need. You can suppress the "stay-on-top"
behavior with a setting available under the Options Menu and
the QuickBeam System Menu.

Now it's time to beam some files. Just point your PC's IR port
at another QuickBeam equipped PC and you are ready. Drag a
file and drop it anywhere on QuickBeam and it will beam into
the IR Inbox of the other machine. Easy! Try all the toolbar
buttons to see what they do--you won't hurt anything.

For an extra convenient method of sending files on Windows
95, simply right-click on a file in the Explorer to pull up the
menu of available operations, click on "Send To" to pop up the
menu of sending options, and click on QuickBeam from that menu.

Don't let anything get in the way of those bits as they fly
through the air! Infrared light needs a clear pathway between
the devices, just as if you were signaling with a flashlight.

We hope you enjoy the convenience of sharing data with
QuickBeam IR. Keep your eyes open for expanded features in
future versions. You can check on us anytime at
www.countersys.com.
