			       RELEASE NOTES

These notes describe release 4.0.0 software for the BCM5700 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.  In additions to the Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Adapter User Guide.  Online versions of the user guide in HTML formats are located in the \manuals directory of the Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Software CD. These notes provide last minute corrections (if any) to the user guide located in the printed Release Notes found in the product package. 

Software Compatibility
======================

This release of software supports:
- BCM5700 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter with B0 step silicon version (P20)
- On chip firmware version 0.8 or greater
- PCI Local Bus version 2.2

Note: Upgrade to firmware version 0.8 is required for this release of software to work properly, specifically with the LEDs configuration. The firmware version 0.8 is included in the \Dos\EngDiags directory.  Please refer to the release.txt for more details. Refer to item (1) below for upgrading EEproms contents.


Upgrading from the Previous Driver Release
==========================================

It is highly recommended that you install the BCM5700 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter and version 4.0.0 software on a server where no earlier-version Broadcom Gigabit Adapters and drivers are installed.

Contents of the CD
==================

This release contains the following software programs:

1) BCM5700 Engineering Diagnostic - bcmediag.exe version 1.23 - This version replaces version 1.20

This DOS program is used to diagnose chip/hardware problems - An extensive understanding of the BCM5700 is required.  Refer to the BCM5700 Diagnostic User's Manual (bcmediagman.pdf) on how to use this program.  If you need a copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing the PDF format user manual, obtain it from the Adobe Systems Incorporated web site: http://www.adobe.com/
Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the DIAGNOSTIC subdirectory for latest changes. 

2) BCM5700 User/Manufacturing Diagnostic - b57diag.exe version 1.08 - This version replaces version 1.06

This DOS program provides a comprehensive user diagnostic to diagnose the BCM5700 adapter in pass or no pass criteria.  The test result can be saved in a file by executing command b57diag with -l <filename> as an option.  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \dos\UserDiags subdirectory for latest changes.

3) BCM5700 EEPROM utility - b57man.exe version 1.2

This DOS program provides support for programming the MAC address, Sub-System ID(SSID), Sub-Vendor ID(SVID), enable and disable the following functions:
- Wake On LAN (WOL)
- Preboot Execution (PXE)

Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \dos\eeprom subdirectory for latest changes.

4) BCM5700 Miniport Driver for Microsoft Windows NT4 - b57nt4.sys version 1.15 - This version replaces version 1.14

Microsoft Windows NT service pack 6 or greater is recommended to use with this release of theminiport driver.  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \WindowsNT\Driver subdirectory for latest changes.

5) BCM5700 Miniport Driver for Microsoft Windows 2000 - b57w2k.sys version 1.15 - This version replaces version 1.14

This driver supports offloading with:
- Onchip checksum IP, UDP, TCP
- Jumbo frames
- VLAN is supported

Wake On LAN is supported in this release of software, this requires board revision of 12 and above.  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \Windows2000\Driver subdirectory for latest changes.

6) BCM5700 Linux Driver - version 1.3.6 - This version replaces version 1.3.5

This driver supports LINUX Redhat Version 2.2, 6.x and 7.0.  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \linux subdirectory for latest changes.

7) BCM5700 Server ODI Driver - b57.lan version 1.00 - This version replaces version 0.23
This driver supports Novell Netware 4.2 and 5.x.  This driver also supports IP, TCP/UDP checksum offload (5.1 or greater) and PCI hotplug.  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \Netware\Driver subdirectory for latest changes.

8) BROADCOM Advanced Server Program (BASP) for Microsoft Windows NT4 and Windows 2000 - version 1.2.4 - This version replaces version 1.2.3  In this release, Broadcom Smart Load Balance (SLB) supports failover among BCM5700 Adapters independent of transport protocols(TCP/ip, IPX, Netbeui).  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \WindowsNT\BcmServ, and \Windows2000\BcmServ subdirectory's for latest changes.

9) BROADCOM Advanced Server Program for Novell Netware 4.2 (basp4x.lan)/5.X (basp.lan) - version 1.07 - This version replaces version 1.06b
In this release, Broadcom Smart Load Balance (SLB) supports failover among BCM5700 Adapters independent of transport protocols(TCP/ip, IPX, Netbeui).  A Broadcom version (v2.05b) of Alteon Tigon 2 ODI Driver is required to support failover from BCM5700 Adapters to Alteon Tigon 2.  VLAN is not supported in this release.  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \Netware\BcmServ subdirectory for latest changes.

10) BROADCOM Management Application Programming Interface - bmapi.dll version 1.2.3 - This version replaces version 1.2.2
This DLL provides a common interface to BROADCOM Advanced Server Program, SNMP agents,
DMI and Broadcom Advanced Server Control Suite.  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \ControlSuite subdirectory for latest changes.

11) BROADCOM Advanced Server Control Suite (BASCS) - b57exp.cpl version 1.12 - This version replaces version 1.10
This is an integrated GUI application that allows you to view information of all NICs in the servers, configure the load balance and failover team, view statistics per VLAN, and LOAD BALANCE teams.  The Cable diagnostic is supported in this release.  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \ControlSuite subdirectory for latest changes.  This application should be installed by running setup from the \ControlSuite subdirectory on the installation CD.  Note:  This setup will also install the file baspmgnt.dll (see item 15 below)

12) Support for PCI hot plug under NT4 is embedded within the BCM5700 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Miniport Driver (version 1.15) see item (4) above.

13) Support for PCI hot plug via DMI - b57dmihp.exe version 1.02 - This version replaces version 1.01
Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \dmi\hppdell for latest changes.

14) CIM - Failover events indication under Windows 2000 is supported within the intermediate drivers (basfw2k.dll).  Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \cim\ subdirectory for latest changes.

15) SNMP - Broadcom Advanced Server Program SNMP sub-agents - baspmgmnt.dll version 1.0.5 - This version replaces version 1.0.3
Trap on failing over is not supported in this release. Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \snmp\ subdirectory for latest changes.

16) PXE - Broadcom Preboot Execution version 1.01 - This version replaces version 1.0
Refer to the RELEASE.TXT file on the installation CD in the \pxe\ subdirectory for latest changes, as well as required registry settings.  

17) MakeDisk - Driver installation diskettes can be created using this setup program located in the\MakeDisk subdirectory.

18) BCM5700 DOS ODI Driver - version 0.03 - This version replaces version 0.02

19) Broadcom Advanced Server Control Suite (BASCS) Setup Application- version 4.0.0 - located in the \ControlSuite subdirectory on the CD.  This setup application will install 3 components onto your system.  After setup has been run, the Broadcom Advanced Server Control Suite, SNMP sub-agents, and PCI Hot Plug service will be installed.  In future versions of this setup application, the end user will be able to select from a dialog box, which components to install on their system.  This current version installs all 3 components.  Note:  The Microsoft SNMP Service must be installed for the Advanced Server SNMP sub-agents to work properly. Also, if you wish to utilize the Hot Plug feature, DMI Service Provider software v2.0 software MUST be installed prior to installing the Broadcom DMI PCI Hot Plug service.  See release notes for each of these products for more information.

The BASCS Systray is bundled in BASCS for easy access to the control suite. This utility is installed when installing BASCS.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
