1. Important Note

Please read this README file and all the supplied documentation 
BEFORE you continue the installation.



2. Installation Instructions
=================================================================
Installation from CD:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Place the CDROM that you received with Diamond Viper II Z200 in  
your CDROM drive X: (X: being your CDROM drive letter).
If your CDROM Autostart feature is turned off, you will need to 
manually go to your RUN line (Click on Start, then Run, located on your 
Start bar) and browse to your CD, which will guide you through 
the rest of the installation.


Manual Installation via .inf file:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1.  Start your system with Windows 2000 installed.
2.  When the "Starting Windows...","For troubleshooting and advanced 
    startup options..." message is displayed, press F8.
3.  Use the down arrow to scroll down the options.  Select "Enable VGA" mode 
    and press Enter.
4.  Log into Windows 2000.
5.  From "Start", select "Settings", then click the "Control Panel" icon.
6.  Double-click the "System" icon.  
7.  Click the Hardware tab, then click the "Device Manager" button.
8.  Double-click the "Other Devices" icon.  
9.  Right mouse click on Video Controller, then select Properties.
10. Click the "Driver" tab, then click "Update Driver."
11. From the Upgrade Device Wizard, click "Next."
12. Click the "Search for a..." button, then click "Next."
13. Click the "Specify a location..." button, then click "Next."
14. Insert the Diamond Installation CD into your CD- or DVD-ROM drive. 
15. From the Upgrade Device Wizard Search Results screen, click "Next."  
16. Click "Browse" and find the "S3Sav2k.inf" file in the directory where the 
    drivers are located and double-click on it.
17. After the device driver is installed, it will display "Diamond Multimedia  
    Viper II Z200." 
18. Click Finish, then restart your system to complete the installation.



3. Installation Notes

    If installing Windows 2000 with the Diamond device currently 
    installed in the system:

    Proceed through the Windows 2000 installation as normal. The 
    installation will finish. Once Windows 2000 has started for 
    the first time, proceed to follow the steps outlined above 
    to install the driver for your Diamond device.

To uninstall the driver, remove it from the Device Manager.  
1. Right mouse click on "My Computer."
2. Scroll down to "Properties."
3. Click the "Hardware" tab. 
4. Click "Device Manager." 
5. Double-click "Display Adapters." 
6. Right mouse click on "Diamond Multimedia Viper II Z200." 
7. Choose Uninstall and follow the Windows prompts.


4. Known Issues
=================================================================
The Gamma Scheme resets to the last or 'default' setting when the 
color depth is changed between 16bit and 32bit. Any previously 
set Gamma Scheme will be restored when that color depth is 
selected


5. Known Limitations
=================================================================

128 MB of memory is needed for correct function of multi-monitor,
dual CPU, and higher modes.

By design, Flat Panel and TV will not operate at the same time.

Gamma Utility does not function using a Flat Panel and Digital
Monitor Display Devices.

The S3 Gamma Utility and S3Switch Utility must be removed manually
through add/remove programs in the Control Panel.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
