Lucent WinModem.txt Driver File Contents (Agere_PCI_2K.zip)

Using the Lucent Win-Modem in Windows-XP.

We have encountered a temporary problem when using this modem under Windows-XP.

The problem arises when the modem is first detected, XP loads its own driver for this modem (version 5.98A) without reference to the driver CD. Unfortunately that is quite an old driver and it is liable to give performance issues such as poor dialtone detection.

However there is a simple remedy using the CD supplied with the modem, and following the steps below

1.	In the Control Panel, go to Phone and Modem Options, click on Modems, Properties, Driver, Update Driver. This will launch the Hardware Update Wizard.

2.	Tick the option to Install from a list or specific location (advanced) , click Next.

3.	Take the CD which you received with the modem and verify which version you have (this information determines the action to take at step 5 below. Then insert the CD into your drive.

4.	Click on the Have Disk option, and click Browse.

5.	If your driver CD is green/white, with code 3M-2310750000, then specify the folder ‘Drivers\Win2K’, if your CD has a silver background and has the code 162-0114-04, then specify the folder 56K Lucent\PCI. At this stage you do not need to choose a specific driver file, merely the folder in which they are located. Click Open to proceed

6.	Click OK then Next to commence the driver load.

7.	Windows-XP may warn you that this driver is not digitally signed, this is normal, click on Continue Anyway.

8.	Windows-XP will transfer some driver files. You should then click Finish to complete the process. Windows-XP will complete the modem device installation (including an audio device) and load its files.

9.	You can confirm that the driver update has been successful by checking the driver version number shown, you will see it is version 8.10 or more.

10.	Before using the modem to connect to the Internet, it is essential to re-boot the PC after performing this driver update.
