INTRODUCTION ************************ HP Web Access HP LaserJet 5100 series printers have optional HP Web Access on DIMM. (Please note the exception: the HP LaserJet 5100 dtn comes with HP Web Access as standard.) HP Web Access and HP Web JetAdmin work together to provide a scalable remote management solution. HP Web Access provides a simple, easy-to-use solution for one-to-one printer management. In offices where there are a limited number of printers, remote management of printing devices can be accomplished without installing any management software. The only requirement is that the management console has a supported Web browser. In environments with a larger number of printers, where one-to-one management is impractical, you can use HP Web JetAdmin for printer management. In this case, HP Web JetAdmin is used for consolidated management tasks, where operations are performed on a selected set of printers instead of on individual printers. For environments with a large number of printers, HP has provided hooks between HP Web Access and HP Web JetAdmin so the HP Web Access features can be configured on multiple printers in one operation. For example, the security password for HP Web Access can be set on a population of printers using one command. HP Web Access offers these additional features: (Some features require installation of hard disk.) o Supplies Status - this page provides information on toner cartridge, total pages printed, and the serial number of the printer. o Event Log - this page provides information on reported printer errors. o Usage Page - this page provides information on the usage of the printer. o Security - this page lets you set a password to secure the printer. o Language - this page lets you select the language in which to view the HP Web Access information. o NEW! E-mail and alerts functionality (For more information regarding this new feature download the "HP Embedded Web Server for HP LaserJet Printers User Guide" from the URL: http://www.hp.com/SUPPORT/lj8150_manuals. Please note: this URL is for the HP lj 8150. The User Guide for the Embedded Web server found on that page applies to all LaserJet products.) ***************************** II. Installation and Upgrade ***************************** --Downloading and installing HP Web Access software to a single printer What is needed: If the printer is shared on the network, then the following command can be issued from a DOS command prompt: copy /b FILENAME \\SHARENAME\PRINTERNAME Where FILENAME is the name of the HP Web Access file, SHARENAME is the name of the machine from which the printer is being shared, and PRINTERNAME is the printer's share name. If the printer is attached locally, then the HP Web Access file can be sent directly to the printer with a COPY command from a DOS command prompt: copy /b FILENAME PORTNAME Where FILENAME is the name of the HP Web Access file and PORTNAME is the name of the appropriate printer port (such as LPT 1). You can also send the file via a Fast Infrared (FIR) port. For UNIX systems: Any method that delivers the HP Web Access file to the printer will work, including this example for printers connected via parallel cable: $ cp /home/yourmachine/FILENAME /dev/parallel Where /home/yourmachine/FILENAME contains the HP Web Access file. NOTE: The printer will automatically restart after processing the upgrade. ********************************** III.
