Introduction:
=============
    The VIA FIR Device Driver is used to fast infrared transfers between
    two fast infrared enabled devices at the speed of SIR(9600bps,19200bps,
    38.4kbps,57.6kbps,115.2kbps),MIR(1.152Mbps) and FIR(4Mbps)
 
    This document shows you how to setup the driver in Windows operating system.

System Requirements:
=============
  * This package should be installed on the VIA South Bridge chipset,
     VT8231 or later, and others' chipset will not be supported.

   * BIOS Support FIR (Turn On)

   * FIR Dongle ( HP type or IBM type) with connector to mother boards
    ( Check VCC,IRRX,IRRX2,GND,IRTX 5 PINs)

   * The "VIA FIR Device Driver" supports the following Operation
     System.

Driver Installation for Windows 98/98SE/ME
=============

    Use Device Manager to install FIR driver.

    1. Insert the driver diskette into floppy.
    2. Enable FIR option in BIOS . The Windows will show unknow PnP device.
    3. The Windows will search the PNP device in your system.
       To continue, click "Next".
    4. Choose the "VIA Fast Infrared Controller" in the device list, click
       "Next".
    5. The next dialog, click "Finish". Then the "VIA Fast Infrared Controller
       Properties" will show up.
    6. Click the "Reinstall Driver" Button.
    7. Then it will pop up a 'Update Device Driver Wizard' dialog, click "Next".
    8. Next dialog, Choose "Search for a better driver...." option, click "Next".
    9. The Next Dialog, "Specify a location", for example, a:\win98, this is
      where the driver located. When ready, click "Next".
   10. The Windows will show the device "VIA Fast Infrared Controller", and the
       .inf file location.
       Put your Windows 98 CD into the cdrom. Click "Next".
   11. Windows will copy file from diskette and CD into harddisk.
   12. Click "Finish" and restart the computer.

Driver Uninstallation for Windows 98/98SE/ME
=============

Uninstall "VIA FIR  device driver" driver
    1. Start device manager.
    2. Select "VIA Fast Infrared Controller" and then right click on
       "VIA Fast Infrared Controller"
    3. Select "Delete"

Package Version Identify
=============

     You could check this distribuation version and release date by using
     the DATE\TIME displayed by using dir/p command, e.g :

        VIAIRDA    SYS        5950   02-25-00  0:10  VIAIRDA.SYS

     The time column is 0:10 which means the package distribution version
     is 0.10 and is released on the Feb. 25 '00.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
