1.   WHAT'S NEW IN THIS RELEASE
     1.1   New and Improved Features
           1.1.1   AC3 decoding

                   You can now choose to let Sound Blaster Extigy or
                   your external AC3 decoder process AC3 signals. 
                   See Creative Audio Mixer's online help for 
                   details.

           1.1.2   Crossover Frequency and Bass Redirection

                   A Crossover Frequency option has been added to 
                   enable you to control which frequencies are 
                   directed to the subwoofer. Click the Bass
                   Redirection option under Advanced Properties in
                   Creative Audio Mixer to access the Crossover
                   Frequency control.

           1.1.3   3D Audio Processing

                   3D audio processing has been improved to 
                   enhance your gaming experience.

           1.1.4   MP3 playback with CMSS

                   CMSS now reduces any distortion from the rear
                   speakers when you play MP3 files.

           1.1.5   Audio restoration

                   During DVD playback, audio that is muted when
                   you pause or skip chapters can be restored
                   more quickly.

           1.1.6   96 kHz / 24 bit playback

                   Sound Blaster Extigy now supports 96 kHz/24 bit 
                   wave playback.

           1.1.7   Sound Blaster Extigy Firmware version

                   You can check the firmware version number 
                   for your device under Creative Audio Control.

           1.1.8   USB device conflicts

                   Conflicts between Sound Blaster Extigy and
                   certain USB cameras have been resolved.

2.   INSTALLATION NOTES
     2.1   Applications updated

           The following applications will be updated:
           2.1.1   Sound Blaster Extigy drivers
           2.1.2   Sound Blaster Extigy firmware
           2.1.3   Creative Audio Mixer
           2.1.4   Creative Audio Control
           2.1.5   Creative Diagnostics

     2.2   Before you begin

           Before you attempt to upgrade the firmware for your 
           device, be sure that:
           i)   You have already installed the Sound Blaster Extigy
                software package in your computer.
           ii)  You have connected Sound Blaster Extigy to your 
                computer.
           iii) No other applications are running or active in your
                computer.

     2.3   Important installation notes

           While you are installing the upgrade, do not:
           i)   Disconnect Sound Blaster Extigy.
           ii)  Start up any other application.

           If you want to install software from the original 
           Installation CD after the upgrade, be sure to reinstall
           this upgrade to retain the updated drivers and 
           applications.

     2.4   How to install

           i)   Double-click the .exe file that you downloaded.
           ii)  Follow the instructions on screen.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
