README.TXT (English) ==================== Canon CanoCraft FS 3.6.6 March, 2002 _______________________________________________________________________ Thank you for purchasing a Canon film scanner. CanoCraft FS supports the Canon CanoScan 2700F and CanoScan FS2710 film scanners on the Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows Me and Windows XP platforms. This file contains late-breaking information and hints for operating the CanoScan FS2710 that could not be incorporated into its Users Guide. This file can be opened from the CanoCraft FS folder and printed. Please read the information in this file before using the equipment. A Word about TWAIN Standards: The TWAIN standards are periodically revised and although software development companies respond to these revisions, problems may be experienced with some applications that are not fully compliant with TWAIN standards. Canon is working closely with numerous firms to solve these problems to ensure that users do not encounter any problems. _______________________________________________________________________ Contents --------- 1. General Notes 2. Notes Regarding File Formats 3. General Notes Regarding TWAIN Standards 4. Known Problems with Application Programs 5. Notes Regarding Hardware _______________________________________________________________________ 1. General Notes ----------------------- Drag and Drop Actions Not Supported: To open files, start CanoCraft FS, click the [File] menu and select [Open]. Performance on Slower CPUs: The performance of slower CPUs may be effected when saving high-resolution color files that have been rotated. Differences in Gradations between Preview Images and Scanned Images: Minor discrepancies between gradations in shadows may arise between the preview image and the scanned image. Differences in Color Balance between Preview Images and Scanned Images: When using the CanoScan 2700F, there may be differences in color balance between the preview image and the scanned image when extensive adjustments are conducted in the Expert mode. 2. Notes Regarding File Formats --------------------------------------- CIELAB and LAB Color Modes Not Supported: TIF files (*.tif) saved using the CIELAB option (Corel Photo-Paint 6.0) or the Lab mode (Adobe Photoshop 3.0.5) cannot be opened in CanoCraft FS. CMYK Color Mode Not Supported: TIF (*.tif) and JPEG (*.jpg) images saved in the CMYK mode (Corel Photo-Paint 6.0 and Adobe Photoshop 3.0.5) cannot be opened in CanoCraft FS. 3. General Notes Regarding TWAIN Standards ------------------------------------------------------- What to Do if the TWAIN User Interface Is Not Displaying: Some applications (Wang Imaging, for example) may not display the TWAIN user interface. To resolve this, check the manual for the application to change the setting that will enable the TWAIN user interface to be displayed. TWAIN User Interface Disappears After the First Scan: Some applications (for example, Adobe PageMaker 6.0, Microsoft Publisher 3.0, Paint Shop Pro 3.52-32 and Corel Photo-Paint 5.0) may close the TWAIN user interface after an image is scanned. Image Selection or Enhancement Cannot Be Performed: Some applications (Wang Imaging, for example) may disregard image selections or enhancements performed with the TWAIN user interface and scan the original image without incorporating any changes. 4. Known Problems with Application Programs --------------------------------------------------------- Photoshop 4.0 LE: Only a limited number of commands can be performed on images scanned as 36-bit color or 12-bit grayscale images. Imaging for Windows 95: Imaging for Windows 95 (also known as Wang Imaging) may hang while scanning. Please download the latest version of this application. Other Applications: Some applications may not operate if CanoCraft FS 3.6 is used as the TWAIN input source for 36-bit color or 12-bit grayscale images. Check to ensure that the application handle these images before attempting to acquire 36-bit color or 12-bit grayscale images. Do not use the 36-bit color or 12-bit grayscale modes with applications that do not support them. 5. Notes Regarding Hardware ------------------------------------- Initialization Procedures with the CanoScan FS2710: This scanner performs a self-initialization once every two hours when it is left on. This is to ensure that it can correctly reproduce colors. If the color balance of the scanned image is different from that of the preview image, it is possible that the scanner performed a self-initialization. Try previewing the image again and rescan. Differences in Color Balance between 24-bit and 36-bit Color Images Output by the CanoScan FS2710: The 24-bit color image output from this scanner usually does not require retouching (images are color corrected without relying on the special characteristics of the film). However, 36-bit color images are output with the assumption that retouching will be performed (images will be enhanced according to their special characteristics to a certain degree). Accordingly, the color balance of the same film output in 24-bit and 36-bit color will differ somewhat. _______________________________________________________________________ Windows is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and other countries.
