                   Installing IrDA support

System Installation Requirements

HP OmniBook 800 installed with Windows for Workgroups

HP OmniBook 800 IrDA Drivers. These drivers are located on the OmniBook hard
   disk in C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WFW\IRDA. These drivers are also located on
   the HP OmniBook Recovery CD in the \OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WFW\IRDA directory.

NOTE: IRMON.EXE needs to be running before any IrDA communication can take
      place. In order to accomplish peer-to-peer communications with two
      IrDA-enabled computers, a third party application software is needed
      (e.g. LapLink Remote, Puma, etc.) To print to an IrDA printer, no
      additional software is needed.

Procedure

1. Copy the following files from C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WFW\IRDA\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
    to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.

          IRCOMM.386
          IRLAMP.386
          IRLAPFRM.386
          PROCHOOK.DLL

2.  Create a directory named C:\IRMON.

3. Copy the following files from C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WFW\IRDA\IRMON to
    C:\IRMON.

          IRMON31.EXE
          IRMON31.HLP
	  FIRCFG.EXE

4. Add the following lines to the end of the [386Enh] section of
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI.

device=irlapfrm.386
device=irlamp.386
device=ircomm.386

[ircomm]
AppIRLPT=3
AppIRCOM=4

5. Add the following line to the common area of your config.sys. (This
    should be placed ahead of your PCCARD drivers.)

device=c:\irmon\fircfg.exe

6.  Restart Windows.

7. Run C:\IRMON\IRMON31.EXE to start up the IrDA stack (select the Run...
    command from the File menu of Program Manager, enter C:\IRMON\IRMON31.EXE
    in the Command Line box, and then click the OK button).

To print via IR

1. Set the Windows default printer to LPT3 using the Control Panel.

2. Be sure to mark the "Fast printing direct to port" box under Control Panel,
    Printers, Connect for your printer and port.

To automatically start the IrDA protocol stack (and enable IrDA
communications) each time Windows is started:

1. Open the Program Manager StartUp group by double-clicking the StartUp icon.

2. Select the New... command from the File menu of Program Manager.

3. Make sure that Program Item is selected and then click the OK button.

4. In the Description box, enter: IrMonitor

5. In the Command Line box, enter: C:\IRMON\IRMON31.EXE

6. To have IrMonitor launched as an icon, click the Run Minimized box.

7. Click the OK button. The IrMonitor icon should appear in the StartUp group.
