IBM LAN Server - DOS This is an ASCII file called IBMDOS.TXT in the ATI CardAssistant INFO directory. Use a text editor or a word processor with a mono-space font such as Courier to print this file if needed for reference. ************************************************************* ************************************************************* ** ** ** Installing LAN Server v3.0 ** ** DOS LAN Requester ** ** ** ************************************************************* ************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------ -- Contents -- ------------------------------------------------------------ I. Special Considerations II. Installing LAN Server v3.0 - DOS LAN Requester I. Special Considerations ========================== This installation requires IBM DOS. MS DOS later than 5.0 will not allow installation. From a DOS prompt, run the SETUP24 utility if necessary to manually view the card's configuration, or to configure the media or duplex mode. See manual for details. In PCI machines with the PCI 2 bus, the processor may cycle indefinitely through the bootup process if the adapter card is not installed but the driver is loaded. This can happen if the adapter card has been removed from the computer, yet the driver files are loaded. Since it is not always possible to determine if you are running a PCI 1 vs a PCI 2 bus on your processor, DO NOT LOAD A DRIVER WITHOUT AN ADAPTER CARD INSTALLED. To de-install the driver, remove the driver line from the CONFIG.SYS file, or comment it out, and reboot. If, after installing and loading the driver an error message is returned indicating that that the device could not be found, and you have verified that the BIOS setup and/or the PCI setup procedure for the slot in use is correct, add the following line to the AT-2450 section of your PROTOCOL.INI file: BUSTYPE = PCI1 II. Installing LAN Server v3.0 - DOS LAN Requester ================================================== 1. Insert the LAN Support Program Installation diskette in appropriate drive and then enter "DXMAID" to install DOS NDIS support. The folowing options are available: Configuration for this computer Y Using existing configuration information Y Do you have adapter option diskettes Y Are you configuring for 2 adapters N Do you need 802.2 interface suppport N (Y for AS400 / IBM 3270) Source for LSP a: Target for new configuration c:\lsp 2. From the "Environment Information" screen, select the appropriate installation option, and then press <Enter>. The program will automatically copy over the needed support files. 3. From the "Process Adapter Option Diskette" screen, enter the letter of the drive where the NDIS driver and NIF (Network Information File) can be found (floppy drive letter; e.g., a:\). Then press <F4> to install these files. The program will copy the files AT2450.DOS and AT2450.NIF to the \LSP directory on the target hard drive. The next screen - "Current Configuration" shows the ATI adapter and selected protocols. 4. To load the NDIS and protocol support drivers into memory, reboot your computer by pressing the reset button, or by turning the power switch off and on. Do NOT use <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Delete>. 5. Insert the "DOS LAN Requester Diskette 1" in the appropriate drive and then enter "Install". You will need to enter a unique "Machine ID" for your system and the "Domain ID" that is created at the server. The requester files will be copied to the \DOSLAN directory, and the AUTOEXEC.BAT file will be automatically updated to attach to the network on boot-up. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
