Win98 PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO BEGINNING! HARDWARE INSTALLATION Note: For operation in Windows 98, install the network adapter after the Windows 98 Operating System has been installed. 1. Power off the PC and remove its cover. Turn off the computer and all peripherals. Follow the instructions in your PC User's Guide to remove the cover. 2. Insert and secure the adapter. Select any available PCI slot and remove the slot cover. Carefully install the adapter into the expansion slot by firmly pressing the card into the slot until the adapter is snugly seated. Fasten the retaining bracket with the screw from the slot cover. 3. Replace the PC cover. Replace the computer's cover and reconnect any previously disconnected cables. 4. Repeat the above procedure to fit the network adapter into any other computers to be networked. You are now ready to physically connect this computer to the hub using twisted pair cable (UTP). CONNECTING TO THE 10/100MBS HUB 1. To connect the UTP cable to the hub, align the RJ-45 connector on one end of the twisted-pair cable with the notch on the network adapter's RJ-45 port and insert it into the port until it clicks into place. 2. Align the RJ-45 connector on the other end of the twisted-pair cable with the notch on one of the hub's RJ-45 ports and insert it until it clicks into place. 3. Repeat the procedure in steps 1 and 2 to connect the other PCs to the hub. NOTE: You cannot connect the nodes directly to each other through straight twisted-pair cable. 4. Plug the hub power adapter into an AC power source and then into the hub's power socket. Your network components are now connected. NOTE: There is no power switch on the hub. Once the power adapter is connected, the hub is powered on. Your network is now ready for software installation. WINDOWS 98 ETHERNET ADAPTER DRIVER INSTALLATION 1. Turn on computer and Windows should find a new device. This device should be a PCI Ethernet Controller. 2. Click Next when the Installation Wizard wants to search for a driver. 3. Click Next when you are prompted to search for the best driver. 4. Be sure the Floppy option and Specify Location are checked. Insert the adapter driver disk and in the Specify Location box, type in A:\Win98 (or B:\Win98). Click on Next. 5. The wizard should find the file: A:\Win98\netfe100.inf (or B:\Win98\netfe100.inf) on the floppy disk for the NDC 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter (MX-A). Click Next to continue. Please wait while the wizard copies files. NOTE: The setup program may ask you to insert the diskette again. Click OK. Insert the driver diskette into drive A: (or B:) and then type A:\Win98 (or B:\Win98). NOTE: Depending on your current installation of Windows 98, the setup program may ask you to insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM. Type in the location of your Windows 98 source files. (CD-ROM or hard disk) and click OK. NOTE: If the "DHCP Client" dialog box appears after all the driver files have been copied, click NO to close it. 6. Click on Finish when the wizard has finished installing the software for the new hardware device. 7. The System Settings Change dialog box will ask you if you want to restart your computer. Remove the floppy disk from the floppy drive and click YES to complete the installation and restart the PC. 8. Install network software after restarting. IDENTIFYING YOUR COMPUTER ON THE NETWORK If this is the first time you have installed a network adapter on this computer, you need to give Windows 98 some information to identify the computer on the network. Use the following procedure to identify your computer. 1. Double-click My Computer. Double-click the Control Panel. Double-click the Network icon. Click on the Identification tab. 2. Choose a name to identify your computer on the network (for example, Sam), your workgroup (for example, Support), and brief description of your computer (optional), and then click OK. NOTE: The computer name must be unique for each computer on the network and should be no longer than 15 characters in length. In small networks, the workgroup name should normally be the same for each computer so that all computers are visible in the same workgroup. (Not required for the Lantastic network) Avoid using spaces and the following characters in the computer and workgroup names: / \ * , " @. 3. The System Settings Change dialog box will open. 4. Click Yes to restart your computer and allow the new settings to take effect. 5. Repeat the above steps for each computer you want to network. Lantastic network software users can now begin the installation of the Lantastic network software. Be sure to follow the directions provided by Artisoft for Installing Lantastic on this operating system. UNINSTALLING THE FAST ETHERNET ADAPTER DRIVER You may need to uninstall the adapter for the following reasons: 1. The installation fails or is interrupted by unknown factors. If this happens, the NDC 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter (MX-A) will be marked with an exclamation "!" in the Device Manager. Uninstall the adapter using one of the methods described below and then restart your computer. 2. You want to remove the device. The uninstall process is as follows: Method 1 Restart the computer and then proceed as follows: 1. Double-click My Computer, double-click Control Panel. 2. Double-click the Network icon to open the Network window. 3. Select the NDC 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter (MX-A) from the network component list and click the Remove button. Click OK to reboot the PC. Method 2 Restart the computer and then proceed as follows: 1. Double-click My Computer, then double click the Control Panel. 2. In the Control Panel double-click the System icon to open the system properties window. Select the Device Manager tab. 3. Double-click Network Adapters, or click the "+" symbol to the left of Network Adapters. If there is a "-" to the left of the Network Adapters proceed to Step 4. 4. Select "NDC 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter (MX-A)" and click the Remove button. 5. Confirm the device removal and click OK to reboot the PC.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
