                        Installing Standard IrDA

Standard IrDA communicates at speeds up to 115200 baud. It requires IRQ 3
or IRQ 4 but no DMA channel.

System Installation Requirements

HP OmniBook with Windows 95 installed. Supported versions include 4.00.950 A, 4.00.950 B, and 4.00.950C.
The Windows 95 version can be verified by looking at the system properties
(Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/).

Infrared Support for Windows 95 Version 2.0 drivers. These drivers are
located on the hard disk in C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\IRDA. These drivers
are also located on the HP OmniBook Recovery CD in the
\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WIN95\IRDA directory.

Procedure

1. Uninstall IR if it is already installed.
        - In the Control Panel, run Add/Remove Programs.
        - If "Infrared Support for Windows 95 Version 2.0" is not present,
          go to step 2.

2. Verify that IRQ 3 is free. (IRQ 4 will also work if you are willing to
disable the serial port - COM1).
        - If a PCMCIA card is present, Windows 95 may have assigned IRQ 3 to it,
but IRQ 9 is also available for PCMCIA.
        - If you must have 2 PCMCIA cards in the system the only IRQ left for
IR is IRQ 4, which means you must disable the COM1 serial port.

        - Under "System Devices" find the "Infrared Port"
        - Set the Infrared Port to "Enabled".

        - If necessary, set the "Base I/O address" to "2F8 IRQ3" (unless you
need to use IRQ 4, in which case set "3F8 IRQ4").

4. Exit SETUP, saving the changes. ("Exit", "Save Changes and Exit", Yes)

5. Check the serial driver
        - In the Control Panel, run "System".
        - Click the "Device Manager" tab.
        - Double-click "Ports (COM & LPT)".
        - Verify that the "Generic Ir Serial Port" is present.

6. Install the IR 2.0 code
        - In the Control Panel, run Add/Remove Programs.
        - Click the "Install" button on the "Install/Uninstall" tab.
        - Click "Next".
        - Type "c:\omnibook\drivers\win95\irda\setup". (If you are installing
from the recovery CD, use the drive letter for the CD drive.)
        - Click "Next" to run the "Add Infrared Device Wizard".
        - Click "Next" to choose "Built-in Infrared port on laptop...".
        - Select "Generic Ir Serial Port" and click "Next".
        - Click "Next" to use the default ports (COM4 and LPT3).
        - Click "Finish" to exit the "Add Infrared Device Wizard".
        - Reboot the computer (Start, Shut Down, Restart the computer)
