                  Installing Sound support



System Installation Requirements

HP OmniBook 800 installed with Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups

HP OmniBook 800 PCMCIA Drivers.  These drivers are located on the OmniBook
   hard disk in C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\WFW\SOUND. These drivers are also
   located on the HP OmniBook Recovery CD in the \OmniBook\DRIVERS\WFW\SOUND
   directory.



Procedures
1.   Copy the files contained in the c:\omnibook\drivers\wfw\sound\windows
     directory to the c:\windows directory. (There are a total of nine files.)
2.   Copy the contents of the c:\omnibook\drivers\wfw\sound\windows\system
     directory to the c:\windows\system directory. The need to replace some
     existing files may be necessary. (There are a total of nine files.)
3.   Add the following sections and lines to c:\windows\system\system.ini file.
     (The simplest method is to cut and paste from the sound.txt found in the
     c:\omnibook\drivers\wfw\sound directory.)
4.  In the [drivers] section add

5.  Add the [auddrive.drv] section and the following lines.

7.   Add the following line to the [386Enh] section of the c:\windows\system.ini
     file.
          device=es1888wn.386
6.   Modify the “load= “   line in the c:\windows\win.ini file as follows:
          load=essdaemn.exe
8.   Restart Windows. Upon entering Windows, the default chime should sound.
9.   This procedure will install a MIDI Mapper icon in the Control Panel.
10.  The sound driver is now installed.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
