Part 1: Features
================
1. Corrected problem where Windows 98 may hang on shut-down if FIR is
   enabled and the OmniBook was suspended and resumed before shutting
   down Windows 98.


Part 2: Enabling FIR port in the BIOS
=====================================
Before you use your infrared port to transfer files or to print to an
infrared printer, you must enable the infrared port in the BIOS.

1. Reboot the OmniBook.

2. When you see the HP logo, press F2.

3. Go to the Advanced menu.

4. Set the IrDA port setting to Enabled.

5. Set Mode to FIR.

6. If DMA channel conflicts with Parallel port DMA channel,
   change Parallel port Mode to EPP.

7. Select F10 to save the changed values and reboot.
   Windows will detect the IR port and reboot again.

8. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network.

9. On the Configuration tab, select IrDA v3.0 Fast
   Infrared Port and click Properties.
   
10. Select the Advanced tab.
   
11. Under Property select Infrared Transceiver A, under
    Value select HP-HSDL-2300, and click OK twice.

12. Reboot the computer again.


Part 3: Installation of FIR Driver for Windows 98
=================================================
Note: This FIR driver will only work under Windows 98.

1. From Control Panel, double-click System, then click 
   Device Manager.
   
2. Select "View devices by type."

3. Click Infrared devices, select Infrared Communication
   Device, and click Remove.

4. Click Network Adapters, select IrDA v3.0 Fast Infrared
   Port, and click Properties.

5. Click Driver tab, and click Update Driver.
   
6. On the Update Device Driver Wizard, click Next.
  
7. Select "Display a list of all the drivers. . . ." and
   click Next.

8. Select "Have Disk..."
  
9. Enter the path or directory name to where you extracted your files, 
   e.g. c:\omnibook\drivers\irda and click OK.
  
10. Select IrDA v.30 Fast Infrared Port, and click OK.

11. Wait for the a dialog to appear with instructions confirming
    the location of the extracted driver files.  Click Next.

12. After Windows has finished updating the Fast IR driver, it will
    display a dialog box.  Click on the Finish button in that dialog box.

13. Click yes to reboot your OmniBook.
  
The enhanced driver is now installed and ready to use.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
