To enable IrDA communications on an HP OmniBook 5000:

1. Copy the two files in the IRMON directory to C:\IRMON

2. Copy the four drivers in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

3. Add the following lines to the end of the [386Enh] section
   of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI

AppIRLPT=3
AppIRCOM=4


4. Restart Windows.

5. To start up the IrDA protocol stack, run the IrMonitor program
   (IRMON31.EXE):

   Run the OmniBook Tools program and click the Connections button
   or use the Run... command from the File menu of Program Manager.

6. When IrMonitor is running, LPT3 can be used as a "virtual" LPT
   port and COM4 can be used as a "virtual" COM port.  You may use
   these "virtual" ports just as you would use real, physical ports.



To Setup Your Default Printer to Print Via IR:

1. Open the Printers dialog from Control Panel.

2. Select your printer from the Installed Printers list.

3. Click the Connect... button.

4. Select LPT3 as the Port and make sure that the "Fast Printing
   Direct to Port" checkbox is marked.  Then click the OK button.

5. With your printer name still highlighted, click the
   Set As Default Printer button.

6. Close the Printers dialog.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
