Subject:	ES336D DSVD Driver Application Note V2.43.014B-d)

DSVD allows simultaneous transmission of Data and Voice over the PSTN network and we could not find an Application specifically designed to accommodate our DSVD modem, PCPLUS for WINDOWS ver 2.11 and ESSDSVD.EXE utility can be used to test DSVD functionality.

Calls can be placed in two ways:

1-VOICE call first, then enable Data or
2-DATA call first, then enable Voice.

A> VOICE CALL FIRST:

For VOICE Call First, users would have DSVD modems installed and ready
to accept commands from an Application like PCPLUS. Then a regular phone call would be established.

To enable DSVD Data function, one user commands the modem with AT+Y, and the other with AT+Z. Modems will enter V.8bis negotiation, then handshake and connect in LAPM.

Once connection is established, users can resume normal conversation and send/receive Data.

Once in DSVD mode, users can:

	-Disable the Audio channel: both users hangup the TelSet;

-Re-enable the Audio channel: one user calls the other by
 simply picking up the Telset;

-Switch to Speaker Phone: click ESSDSVD icon, then select
 SpkrPhone and hangup TelSet;

-Switch back to TelSet: just pick up TelSet, Remote's phone
 will Ring;

-Drop Data Connection: just hang up modem.

-Disable Audio channel and keep Data Connection: click ESSDSVD
 icon, de-select Enable Audio and hangup TelSet.

B> DATA CALL FIRST

For DATA Call First, users would establish a modem call in LAPM and transfer files. At any point users can ask DSVD modems to enable the Audio channel in basically the same ways as above. For example:

-To Enable Audio channel: one user picks up TelSet, the other
 hears Ring and picks up TelSet;

 in Speaker Phone mode: user opens icon, enables
Audio; Remote user hears Ringing, opens icon and selects Audio;

-Totally Disable Audio channel: both users hangup the TelSet
 or disable Audio;

	-Re-enable Audio channel: pick up the Telset or select Audio.

C> ESSDSVD ICON INSTALLATION AND FUNCTIONS

The ESSDSVD should automatically install at the time you install the modem, but if you ever need to reinstall it please follow these steps:

1-Copy file ESSDSVD.EXE into the WINDOWS directory;

2-Select Win95 START, RUN, point to C:\WINDOWS\ESSDSVD.EXE and hit OK. You should see an ESSDSVD icon on the right side of your Applications tool bar.

The ESSDSVD utility gives you with 4 choices:

Choice 1 - Enable Audio;
Allows calling party an easy way to initiate a SpkrPhone
call and the Answering party to pick up the Audio Call;

Choice 2 - Speaker Phone;
Select SpkrPhone instead of TelSet;

Choice 3 - Options;
Brings up a Modem Demo screen where you can select the number of Rings for modem to respond;

Choice 4 - Exit;
	Stops running ESSDSVD utility and closes icon;

D> Microsoft's NET MEETING

If you have Microsoft NetMeeting installed you still can use the ESSDSVD utility to control the Audio channel. Try the following:

1-Click on NetMeeting icon to launch the Application.

2-From the Tools menu, click Options..., then Protocols... and select Modem as your NetMeeting protocol. Make sure "ESS ES336D DSVD modem" is selected and check that Modem Properties... and Dialing Properties have the proper information then click OK.

From the Call menu, click Place Advanced Call then enter the Phone number that you want to call and click call. Modem will dial. Remote user should accept the call.

At this point you can use ESSDSVD to establish the Audio channel as described above.
