ECP settings Depending on the PC in use, the printout may not come out properly if "ECP with DMA" is used. In such a case, please select "ECP without DMA" or "Standard" in the ECP Setting dialog box using Custom Installation. If the problem is not resolved by this, you may be able to solve this by changing its BIOS setup (i.e. parallel port mode or parallel port address). ======================================================================== 2. Rapid Resume In order to activate the Status Monitor of LBP-660, the Rapid Resume function of your PC becomes unable. If you wish to activate the Rapid Resume function, please make the following changes in your "SYSTEM.INI". Once you made this change, the Status Monitor of LBP-660 always display "READY" message in its window even though the printer is idol. [386Enh] "WPSDisableAPMWhilePrinting=1" -> "WPSDisableAPMWhilePrinting=0" "WPSSleep=0" -> "WPSSleep=1" ======================================================================== 3. Ignoring paper size mismatch If its paper size is set for Letter, Legal, Executive, A4 or B5, LBP-660 gives you a warning to change its paper size. In order to avoid it, please make the following change in your "SYSTEM.INI". This change is required if the Legal size is selected as its default and any paper smaller than Legal size is in use. Please remind that the warning message always displayed if those paper size were selected its default regardless of your "SYSTEM.INI" setting. [386Enh] "WPSPaperCoercion=0" -> "WPSPaperCoercion=1" ======================================================================== 4. Check Printer/Cable If the LBP-660 is not plugged in, or the printer cable is not properly connected, a message may not be displayed even when print request is submitted. In this case, double click on the LBP-660 Status Window Icon in the Windows Printing System Group to check the printer status in the Printer Status Window. ======================================================================== 5. Resume function of Note PC If you are using a note PC which has its resume function to cease CPU access (i.e. closing the cover of PC), you may encounter some problems in printing. In order to avoid those problems results from this resume function, please turn it off or do not close the cover while printing. ======================================================================== 6. Multiple Printers on a single port: Windows 3.1x and Windows 95 Some printers are designed to work alone on a given printer port. If you are having difficulty printing to the Canon LBP-660 printer, redirecting the other printers from the same port may solve this problem. Directions to redirect printers in Windows 3.1x: 1. Double-Click on the "Control Panel" icon. 2. Double-Click on the "Printers" icon. 3. Select a printer that is on the same port as the Canon LBP-660. 4. Press the "Connect" button. 5. Select a different port from the one that is selected, or select "File:". 6. Press OK. 7. Repeat 3-6 until no other printers are on the same port as the Canon LBP-660. 8. Close all dialogs and exit Control Panel. Directions to redirect printers in Windows 95: 1. Click on the "Start" button. 2. Select the "Settings" menu item. 3. Click on the "Printers" menu item. 4. Right Click on the Canon LBP-660 printer icon. 5. Click on the "Properties" menu item. 6. Select the "Details" tab and note the port name under "Print to the following Port:." 7. Press the Cancel button. 8. Repeat steps 4-6 for the other printers that you have in the "Printers" folder. If any of these printers are on the same port as the Canon LBP-660, press the down arrow next to the port name and select "File: (Creates a file on disk)" for that printer. Then press OK. ======================================================================== 7. Swapping Printers and Ports: Windows 3.1x and Windows 95 If you switch your LBP-660 and an addition printer from one port to another on your computer, you should exit and restart Windows 3.1x or Windows 95 once you have completed redirecting your printer drivers to the new ports. ======================================================================== 8. Printer setup from application If you can not change the print settings for this printer using "Printer Setup" in any application, please select it from "Properties" in Printers folder using Windows 95 . For those of using Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups, please make necessary changes from its Printers dialog in Control Panel. ======================================================================== 9. Scaling Some applications may not print correctly when scaling is set at other than 100% by LBP-660 Printer Setup or Properties. In this case, please set its scaling at 100%. If the application has own its scaling function, please set scaling from the application. ======================================================================== 10. When upgrading from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 Installing Windows 95 on the PC which already has "LBP-660" installed under Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups, please delete all files contains "LBP-660" by clicking "Uninstallation" icon before installing Windows 95 to your PC. ======================================================================== 11. About Spool data format of Windows 95 If "SPOOL32 caused a general protection fault in module GDI.EXE..." dialog box is displayed while printing under Windows 95, you may get rid of this problem by changing its "Spool data format" from "EMF" to "RAW". You may be able to make this change in "Spool Settings" of "Details" tab which may be found in "Canon LBP-660 Properties" dialog box. For some applications, setting its "Spool data format" as "RAW" may improve its print speed depending on contents of the print file. ======================================================================== 12. Improper message is displayed in starting up Windows 95 When setting your default printer for "Canon LBP-660 PCL Emulation", an improper warning message will be displayed in starting up Windows 95 session. In that case, please disregard the message and resume its start-up by pressing "O.K." button. ======================================================================== 13. Spool32 error is displayed in starting up Windows 95 Ending Windows 95 without closing "Printer" folder (or leaving it in task bar), the PC may display "SPOOL32 caused an invalid page fault in ..." dialog box the next time you boot it up. If you run into this condition, first of all, please click "Close" button in the dialog box and use "CTRL+ALT+DEL" function key to close "Printers" folder, then restart Windows session. If you encounter this problem frequently, please make sure that "Printers" folder is closed every time you end Windows session. ======================================================================== 14. Paintbrush causes GPF.: Windows 3.1x With setting Adobe Type Manager on, it may result in an application error, stack size over flow, when printing Paintbrush file. In that case, please turn ATM off and restart Windows session. ======================================================================== 15. PageMaker 5.0: Windows 3.1x PageMaker 5.0 should only be printed from in Windows 3.1x with the Print Manager running. There are some difficulties that you may encounter if you try to print with the Print Manager disabled. To determine if Print Manager is enabled, use the following procedure: 1. Double-Click on the "Control Panel" icon. 2. Double-Click on the "Printers" icon. 3. Make sure that "Use Print Manager" is checked in the lower left-hand corner. 4. Close all dialogs and exit Control Panel. ======================================================================== 16. Multiple print jobs from MS-DOS prompt If you tried to print using more than one MS-DOS prompt simultaneously, the print result may be disturbed by its crosstalk of each print job. Please make sure that you print one job at the time using MS-DOS prompt. ======================================================================== 17. DOS Printing: Windows 95 You may find some difficulties when you try to print from MS-DOS prompt in Windows 95. With some DOS applications, you may see the warning message for device but able to print by simply clicking OK button in the message box. In some cases, you have to type the following command under MS-DOS prompt before running DOS application in order to print on LBP-660. 1. TYPE CON > LPT1 2. CTRL-Z For users of Quatro Pro 5.0 and Lotus 1-2-3 Rev. 3.4, please make sure to redirect its default port from Parallel-1 to LPT1. ======================================================================== 18. DOS Printing: Orientation Some DOS applications may not print correctly on the LBP-660 when Landscape is selected from the application. In this case, choose Portrait in Orientation from the PCL Emulation Front Panel. ======================================================================== 19. Status window options for printing from MS-DOS prompt We suggest you to select "Only display Printer Status Window for errors" in "Status Options" menu of "Options" which may be found in "LBP-660 Status Window" so that you can avoid some problems in printing from MS-DOS prompt. If you select "Display Printer Status Window while printing" from the same menu, you may run into some problems which caused by switching the display screen from MS-DOS mode to Windows mode as soon as a print request is submitted. ======================================================================== 20. Toner Saver Using Toner Saver mode, the objects filled with some graphic patterns may not be printed as shown on the display. ======================================================================== 21. Overlay Depending on its application, the printout using overlay form may be different from what you expect to be printed. For example, the contents of overlay form beyond the printing area may not be printed unless changing its printing area (or margin) setting. Please try to print it setting its margin as wide as to fit all contents of overlay form in the printable area. ======================================================================== 22. Sharing a parallel port with another device As a result of occupying a parallel port by its default setting of the Canon LBP-660, you are unable to share the parallel port with another device such as scanner. Under Windows 95, adding "WPSSharePort=1" to [386Enh] section in your SYSTEM.INI allows the LBP-660 to share the port with another device, providing that the another device conforms the contention management described in the Windows95 DDK(Device Driver Development Kit). ======================================================================== 23. Examples of Restrictions of "Windows Me" The following restrictions apply when using "Windows Me". (1) "ECP with DMA" cannot be used as "Port Type". When selecting "ECP with DMA" in Custom Installation, "Standard" is run. (2) "Canon LBP-660 Installation" of "Windows Printing System" Program Group cannot be used. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
