Gateway 840 SATA Enclosure Firmware
Version 2.40 build 2.04


Perform the appropriate procedure below to update the firmware on your Gateway 840 SATA Enclosure.

There are two ways to perform the update.
A.  WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEMS
B. NON-WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEMS


A.  FOR WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEMS:

1.  Extract the firmware file, v240_204.bin to a floppy disk or to a location on the computer, such as the desktop.

2.  Open Storeview Manager Console

3.  In the main Storeview Manager Console screen, click the hyperlink for the 840 controller on which the update is to be performed.

4.  In the controller window that appears, click the Operations tab.

5.  In the Operations tab, perform the following steps.

 a.  Select Update Controller F/W.
 b.  Click Browse, and then locate the file extracted in step 1. Click OK.
 d.  Click Upload.
 
6.  The firmware file uploads.

7.  When the upload is complete, a "The command Update controller firmware was executed successfully" message appears.  Click Close.

8.  Power off the 840 SATA Enclosure and the server to which it is attached via the SCSI cable.  Wait 5 to 10 seconds, and then power on both devices.  The 840 SATA Enclosure boots using the new firmware.


B.  FOR NON-WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEMS:

1.  Extract the firmware file, v240_204.bin, to a floppy disk or to a location on the computer from which a VT-100 terminal can be used, such as Windows HyperTerminal. 

2.  Power off the 840 SATA Enclosure and the computer with the VT-100 terminal. 

3.  Attach the supplied serial cable to the USB-style connector on the back of the RAID controller in the 840 SATA Enclosure.

4.  Attach the other end to any Windows system with a serial port. 

5.  Launch HyperTerminal (or any other VT-100 terminal), and then configure it to connect using the serial port and the following parameters. 

Baud: 115200
Data Bits: 8
Parity: No
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: No

6.  Initiate the VT-100 connection.  A menu automatically appears.

Note: If the menu does not automatically appear, press the ENTER key several times.(

7.  From the menu, select Diagnostics, then Online Diagnostics, then Controller Maintenance, and then press ENTER on Download and Program Controller Firmware.   

8.  You are prompted to begin the transfer of the firmware file.  Using the HyperTerminal menus, select Transfer, then Send File, and then browse for the file extracted in step 1.

9.  Select the protocol 1K Xmodem, and then click Send.  The firmware updates automatically. 

10.  After the file transfer is complete, exit the VT-100 terminal.

11.  Power off the 840 SATA Enclosure and the server to which it is attached via the SCSI cable.  Wait 5 to 10 seconds, and then power on both devices.  The 840 SATA Enclosure boots using the new firmware.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
