Perform the following steps to update the BIOS on a 9115/9210 server. Two blank, formatted floppy disks are required.

Note: Before attempting a BIOS Flash, first enter the system BIOS (<F2> on boot) and note all settings so they can be re-applied after the flash has been completed. The update restores the BIOS to the default settings.

1. Insert a blank high-density floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.

2. From the Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, type: Sys A:\. Press ENTER. This creates a bootable diskette. Label this disk "Disk 1".

Note: To make a bootable disk, make the floppy disk on a computer running Windows 95 or Windows 98.

3. Insert Disk 2. Extract the BIOS update files and copy them to this floppy disk. Label this disk "Disk 2". Make sure that you are extracting these files from the same computer you created the boot disk with. This ensures that the file system type is the same on both disks.

4. This BIOS update also updates the bootblock. To update the bootblock, you first need to enable the bootblock to be overwritten. To do this, turn off the server and then unplug the power cord. Locate the configuration jumpers on the left side of the server motherboard, located between the PCI riser card and the left edge of the motherboard. Move the jumper labeled "BIOS FLASH WP" (or the third set of pins from the front) from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3. You will need to move this jumper back once the BIOS update is complete.

5. Plug in the power cord, insert Disk 1, and then turn the server on.

6. When the server has finished booting and displays an A:\ command prompt, remove Disk 1 and then insert Disk 2. At the command prompt, type: Autoexec.bat. Press ENTER. The BIOS flash proceeds automatically.

7. When the BIOS update is complete, the server automatically restarts.

8. Remove any floppy disk from the floppy disk drive.

9. Press the F2 key to enter the system BIOS. Set the date, time, boot priority, and any other changed settings noted prior to the update. Press the F10 key to save the settings and exit.

Note: If you encounter a CMOS checksum error after the BIOS update, restart the server, and then press F2 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. Check your settings, then save and exit.
