Win2k_readme.txt Driver File Contents (HSF_Win2kVx.exe)

This document describes the steps required to properly install the Windows 2000 HSF Generic Drivers, which accompany this document. Please understand that the modem drivers you will be installing are intended for basic modem operations and are generally not supported.

I.  Extracting the generic modem driver.

  1.  Download the Win2K HSF Generic Driver from the website (www.conexant.com). 
  2.  To extract the driver double clicking on the HSF_Win2k.exe file and pointed the your C:\Win2k HSF Generic Drivers drive.

**Note:  It is recommended that you take note of the exact location of the extracted files, as you will be required to use this information during the installation process.  
         On how to download the generic modem drivers please read the document "Instructions on How to Download Generic Drivers".

II.  Instructions for Windows 2000.

  i.   Uninstall and install the generic modem drivers with HXFSetup.exe.    

    1.  Go to the folder where the modem driver is located, C:\Win2k HSF Generic Drivers, and double click on the HXFSetup.exe file.
    2.  By clicking on the HXFSetup.exe, you will be uninstalling and installing the HSF generic driver without your intervention.
    3.  If during the installation process, the "Add New Hardware Wizard" pops up which indicates that you need to direct it to the drivers.
    4.  When the "Digital Signature Not Found" windows appears just click on YES.
    5.  Click on Next, then select "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver" and click Next.
    6.  To direct windows to the drivers click on "Hard Disk" and go the folder where the drivers are located, C:\Win2k HSF Generic Drivers.
    7.  Click on Yes when the "Update Driver Warning" appear and click Next.
    8.  Again, click Yes when the "Digital Signature Not Found" window appear.  The reason for the warning is because the HSF Generic Drivers have not been digitally signed by Microsoft.
    9.  Allow a few seconds for the installation process and then click on Finish when ready.

III.  Testing your modem

  1. Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and open the modem control panel (Phone and Modem options in ME & 2K. 
     -WIN98  Highlight the modem in the list, then click on the More Info button. Windows will communicate with the modem and return the results. If this test is successful then your modem is working and is ready to be used.
     -WINME/2K  Click on the modems tab, then click on the Properties button. Next select the diagnostics tab and click on the Query Modem button. Windows will communicate with the modem and return the results. If this test is successful then your modem is working and is ready to be used.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
