Certance Scorpion SP40/SP240 DDS4 Tape Backup Drive

Note: Please verify your current drive firmware before flashing.  This firmware is compatible with DDS4 tape drives with firmware series 9xxx.

To update the tape drive firmware, you need to first download the Certance tape diagnostic utility "TapeRX".  This file is available on the Gateway Web site, filename 9527186.exe.

After downloading and running TapeRx, perform the following steps to update the firmware on your tape drive.

1.  Before performing the update, ensure that the tape drive is finished with any backup, restore, or cleaning cycles.

2.  Download the firmware update file to a folder on your server, such as a new folder on your desktop.

3.  Double-click the file and extract the contents to the folder C:\Cabs\9527187G1.

4.  From the TapeRX window, click Upgrade Firmware.

5.  Click Browse for Firmware File, and then locate the V910B000.bin file.  This is the file which was extracted in step 2.

6.  Click Upgrade Firmware.  The firmware update proceeds automatically.

Note: The tape drive could be damaged if power is lost during the firmware update.

7.  When the update is complete, the message Firmware 910B000 installed appears in the text window.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
