Gateway, Inc. (R) 955/975 FRUSDR Package Installation Notes Production Release 5.6.9

This file will update the FRUSDR.

Installation Instructions:

The BMC and FRUSDR both need to be updated in the following order:

1) FRUSDR 5.5.6
2) BMC 1.13

Note: Gateway recommends running the BMC update anytime the FRUSDR is updated. However, it is not a requirement to update the BMC if you are only adding system components, such as 2GB DDR DIMMs or a redundant power supply module.

The FRUSDR.EXE and associated files should be copied to a bootable floppy disk and run on 955 and 975 server platforms. The autoexec.bat automatically starts the update process when used with a bootable floppy disk.

Floppy Disk Installation Instructions

1. Copy the files in this directory to a clean bootable MS-DOS floppy disk.

2. Boot the 955 or 975 Server to this floppy disk.

3. The updates start automatically when the system boots from the disk.

4. From the menu, select option 1 to update the FRUs and the SDR repository.

5. Select the fan configuration that matches your server.

6. You are prompted if you would like to enter the chassis serial number, chassis part number, and asset tag. These are not required; you may select No and continue with the flash.

7. At the completion of the update, shut down the server and remove the AC power cord(s) for a minimum of 20 seconds. Reapply AC power. If the BMC will be updated after the FRUSDR update, it is not necessary to remove the AC power.

Release Notes

Version 5.6.9:

- Support was added for 3.2 GHz processors.

- The BMC_REFRESH command was added to the Config file. This causes the BMC to be reset after the system is updated. Due to this, it is no longer necessary to cycle AC power after flashing in the SDRs.
