Driver Installation Readme for Windows NT 3.51 Workstation or Server Section 1 ..........Instructions for driver installation when networking is currently setup on Windows NT. Section 2 ..........Instructions for driver installation when networking is not currently setup on Windows NT. Section 3 ..........SNMP Management Station - Files needed to manage the ANA-6911 NOTE: If you plan to use TCP/IP, you will need to obtain your IP address and subnet information prior to installation. You may have a DHCP server that will provide the IP information automatically. If you are not sure if you have a DHCP server or what IP address to use, contact your network administrator. ********************************************************************** ** SECTION 1 *** Driver installation instructions for Windows NT 3.51 Workstation or Server when networking has previously been setup ********************************************************************** 1. Place an Adaptec PCI adapter (such as the ANA-6911A/TX) in the system. 2. Boot your system with Windows NT 3.51. (If you are using Windows NT version 4.0, please refer to the NT40.TXT file for Driver installation instructions). 3. Open the "Main" Program Group in Program Manager. **** REMOVING EXISTING ADAPTEC ETHERNET DRIVERS **** NOTE: If you do not currently have Adaptec or Cogent PCI drivers installed, please skip to step #9. 4. Open "Control Panel". 5. Open the Network Setup Applet. 6. In the "Installed Adapter Cards" section of the Network Settings screen, remove all Adaptec or Cogent PCI adapters by highlighting them and then clicking "Remove". Repeat this step until you have removed all of the Adaptec or Cogent PCI adapters. 7. Close the Network Settings dialog box and allow the system to reboot. NOTE: When restarting Windows NT, you may get message from the Service Control Manager that a service failed during system startup. This message is a result of all adapters being removed in the previous steps. This message will go away after adding the new drivers in the following steps. Click "OK" to continue. 8. Log back on to the Windows NT system. 9. Open "Control Panel". 10. Open the Network Setup Applet. 11. Click Add Adapter... in the Network Settings window. 12. At the "Add Network Adapter" window, select "<Other> Requires disk from manufacturer" from the drop down list and then click Continue. 13. You are now prompted to "Insert disk with software provided by the software or hardware manufacturer." Insert the disk with the Windows NT driver. Be sure to enter the path to the directory where the driver and OEMSETUP file is located. Click OK. **** DRIVER CONFIGURATION **** 14. From the "Select OEM Option" window, Choose the model of your Adaptec network adapter. Click OK. 15. The driver configuration window is now displayed. You may change the connection type in the drop down list to match your needs. The options are: Autodetect Default Connection Detects the cable type and optimal line speed for the specific Adaptec PCI adapter model in use. This is the default and recommended connection type to select. Refer to the NT Help file in the adapter configuration screen for the specific default settings for a given adapter. InitSense/Half Duplex Detects the line speed (10 or 100 Mb/s) when the adapter initializes and is set for Half Duplex mode. InitSense/Full Duplex Detects the line speed (10 or 100 Mb/s) when the adapter initializes and is set for Full Duplex mode. ActiveSense/Half Duplex Detects the line speed (10 or 100 Mb/s) when the adapter initializes and continues to check to see if the line speed has changed. The adapter will be configured for Half Duplex mode. ActiveSense/Full Duplex Detects the line speed (10 or 100 Mb/s) when the adapter initializes and continues to check to see if the line speed has changed. The adapter will be configured for Full Duplex mode. 10 Mbps UTP/Half Duplex Forces the connection to 10 Mb/s in Half Duplex mode. 10 Mbps UTP/Full Duplex Forces the connection to 10 Mb/s in Full Duplex mode. 100 Mbps/Half Duplex Forces the connection to 100 Mb/s in Half Duplex mode. 100 Mbps/Full Duplex Forces the connection to 100 Mb/s in Full Duplex mode. THIN Use this when connecting to the BNC port of a Combo adapter. This is a 10 Mb/s Half Duplex only connection. THICK Set the connection type to "THICK" if you have an adapter that has an AUI port and you will be using that port. This is a 10 Mb/s Half Duplex only connection. Make sure to select the appropriate cable type for your network. TX Sets cable type to RJ-45 TX twisted pair - 10 or 100Mb/ps T4 Sets cable type to RJ-45 T4 twisted pair - 10 or 100Mb/ps ** Make sure to select the appropriate cable type for your network. Also, make sure that both failover ports have been configured to use the same connection type. 16. After choosing your connection type click "Continue". 17. Repeat steps 15 and 16 for each Adaptec adapter installed in your system. NOTE: Each adapter can be identified by its unique PCI Bus/PCI Slot number. 18. If SNMP has not been setup on this computer you will receive the following Setup Message: "! SNMP Service is not installed. To activate SNMP and Adaptec network management features on this system, install the NT SNMP Service. On the network management station, use the configure option to configure Server related MIBs." This is not an error, it is an information dialog. Click "OK" to continue. NOTE: This section assumes that you have already installed the desired protocols. If you have not installed a protocol see section 2, "Driver installation instructions for Windows NT 3.51 Workstation or Server when networking has NOT previously been setup." *********************************************************************** ** SECTION 2 *** Driver installation instructions for Windows NT 3.51 Workstation or Server when networking has not previously been setup- *********************************************************************** 1.
