1. Installation / Deinstallation

1.1 Installation

The Dynalink ISDN COM-Port driver is being installed with the ISDN board driver.
In order to be able to use an ISDN COM-Port with communication applications
it has to be configured via the option 'Dynalink ISDN-Port' in the Control Panel.

1.2 Deinstallation

The Dynalink ISDN COM-Port driver will automatically be removed from the system
during the deinstallation of the ISDN board. Further operations are not
    necessary.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Configuration of the iCom-driver in the Control Panel

2.1 Addition and deletion of ISDN COM-Ports

The Dynalink ISDN COM-Port driver is being configured via the Control Panel.
In the Control Panel click on 'Dynalink ISDN-Port'. Then a configuration dialog
will appear in which you have the following options:

     Add:
     ----
Adds a COM-Port to the list of ports supported by the Dynalink ISDN COM-Port
driver. The modem profile 'ISDN-Modem X.75' will be set as default.

     Delete:
     -------
Removes a COM-Port from the list of ports supported by the
     Dynalink ISDN COM-Port driver.

     Properties:
     -----------
Serves for the extended configuration of an Dynalink ISDN COM-Port.

     Close:
     ------
     Closes the configuration dialog.

Please take into consideration that after the addition or removal of
COM-Ports, Windows has to be restarted in order to make the alterations
     become effective.

2.2 Extended configuration - ISDN modem profiles

     Used profile:
     -------------
In the Dynalink ISDN COM-Port driver, ISDN-modem profiles are preconfigured for
different types of use. In them, profile dependent settings for ISDN protocols
and their parameters are stored. A precise description of the profiles can be
     found in chapter 3.

The following modem profiles are preconfigured:

     ISDN-Modem
     ISDN-Modem X.75
     ISDN-Modem HDLC
     ISDN-Modem V.110
     ISDN-Modem V.120
     ISDN-Modem T-Online (BTX)
     ISDN-Modem AOL/CompuServe X.75
     ISDN-Modem AOL/CompuServe V.110
     ISDN-Modem AOL/CompuServe V.120

     Local echo:
     -----------
In case of an activated local echo, all the characters that are sent
to the COM driver in the AT-command mode will be sent back to the program.

     Modem answers:
     --------------
Here, it can be set how the modem should respond to AT-command sequences.

strings: The modem answers are shown as plain text, e.g. CONNECT for
                succcessful connection set-up.
numeric: The modem answers are shown as numbers, e.g. 0,1,2,3,4, ...
none: No modem answers are shown.

     Own MSN:
     --------
Here, the multiple subscriber number (MSN) that is meant to be used in case of
     outgoing calls can be entered.

     Answer calls:
     -------------
Here, it is set whether the driver should accept incoming calls or not.

     Accepted MSN:
     -------------
Here, the multiple subscriber number (MSN) on which incomming calls are accepted
can be entered. If you leave this field blank, calls are accepted for any MSN.

With the OK button the settings made in this dialog are accepted.
The Standard button resets the values to their defaults.

Via the change button you will enter another dialog in which the ISDN protocol
that is based upon the modem profile can be configured.

2.3 Extended configuration - ISDN protocols

     Protocol:
     ---------
The protocol can only be changed in the general modem profile 'ISDN-Modem'.
In all other profiles the ISDN-protocol is given. Depending on the protocol
     further settings can be made.

     Bits per second:
     ----------------
Here, the transmission rate with which a connection is being established
can be set. The speed has to be set to the same value for each of the
     communication partners.

     Packet size:
     ------------
The packet size determines the maximum number of bytes that may be sent in
a packet to the remote terminal so it does not reject the packet as
defective. Bigger packets usually mean a better data throughput,
     and hence a quicker transmission.

     Window size:
     ------------
The window size determines how many data packages a station may send before
it has to wait for the confirmation of the blocks by the remote partner.
With a large window size the data throughput increases. On bad lines a small
block size has advantages, because imperfectly transmitted data packages
can be recognized more quickly this way.

     Data bits:
     ----------
Here you will set the number of data bits per octet.

     Parity:
     -------
Here it can be set whether a parity bit will be transmitted or not.
In former times parity bits were used for error control. Nowadays error control
it is handled by the transmission protocol and therefore commonly
'no' generation of parity bits must be set.

     Stop bits:
     ----------
Here you can adjust the number of stop bits per octet.

In this dialog the adjustments done are also taken on with the OK button,
and the basic settings are loaded with the standard button.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Examples of configurations

In this chapter examples are given for the step-by-step configuration
of the Dynalink ISDN COM-Port driver for several programs.

The Dynalink ISDN COM-Port driver is preconfigured for different types of use.
Depending on the profile, settings for ISDN protocols and their parameters
are stored in so called ISDN modem profiles.

In order to be able to use the preconfigured modem profiles in different
programs a particular modem profile has to be assigned to a COM-Port via
the option Dynalink ISDN-Port in the Control Panel.
In the program that uses the COM-Port, for the initialization of the
ISDN modem merely the AT command 'ATZ' has to be entered.

If you want to use different programs that require different modem
configurations, and that do not have enough COM-Ports available, you can
also do all the settings for a COM-Port in the Control Panel via
    AT-commands (see Chap.4).
