------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMPAQ GLOBAL MINIPCI 56k (V.90) MODEM by 3COM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your Compaq Global MiniPCI 56k (V.90) Modem by 3Com was installed in your system from the factory. Please do not attempt to remove the modem as you will void the warranty and may cause permanent damage to your computer system and modem. Drivers for your modem have been installed on the system from the factory. If for some reason you need to reinstall your modem or update the drivers, please follow the instructions as outlined in this document. 3Com's World Class country configuration software, WORLDPORT, can also be installed on your system. Please follow the instructions in this document to install this software. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows NT4.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Files Setup.exe Installation Application Wmcacaa.cp_ Control Panel Applet Wmcacaa.dll Dynamically Loadable Library Wmcacaa.sy_ Modem Driver Wmcacaa.inf Installation Information File NT4.0 INSTALLATION ------------------ 1. From the Start Menu select Run. Browse to the appropiate path and run SETUP.EXE. For driver upgrades you would most likely have this on a floppy so Browse to the floppy and run SETUP.EXE. 2. Once SETUP.EXE is running you will be given the option to install the modem. Please select INSTALL to begin the installation process. 3. After selecting INSTALL, the needed files will be copied to the appropriate directories on your system. Once the file copying process is done a new dialog will appear allowing you to make changes to your modem's configuration. 4. If you need to change the COM Port please select a Port that is not in use and then select APPLY or OK to accept the change. 5. You can return to this dialog at any time by going to the Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, MiniPCI Winmodem. 6. The modem defaults to the settings required to work in the United States. If there is a possibility that you will be using your modem outside of the United States, you should install the WorldPort country selection program. Instructions on how to do this are located in the WORLDPORT INSTALLATION section of this file. NT4.0 UNINSTALL ---------------- 1. There are two methods for uninstalling the modem. The first method is from Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, MiniPCI Winmodem applet. Select the Country Settings page tab and then select Uninstall. The second method is to run the SETUP.EXE application as was done during the installation. Select the Uninstall button, confirm the uninstallation and the modem drivers will be uninstalled. 2. You will need to restart the machine to completely remove all the components from the system. NT4.0 DRIVER UPGRADE -------------------- 1. To upgrade your present NT4.0 modem driver you will first need to uninstall the present driver. This is done by following the NT4.0 Uninstall section as outlined in this document. 2. The second step in upgrading the modem drivers is to install the new drivers. This is done by following the steps as outlined in the NT4.0 Install section of this document. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WINDOWS 95 and WINDOWS 98 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Files Wmcacdla.dl_ Dynamically Loadable Library Wmcacaa.vx_ Modem Driver Wmcacaa.inf Installation Information File Wmcaclda.vx_ Modem Loader WINDOWS 98 INSTALLATION ------------------------ Note: If your computer is already running start at step 1, otherwise if you just booted the computer windows Plug and Play will have already detected the modem at boot time and you can skip to step 3. 1. From the Start Menu select Settings and then Control Panel. 2. Select Add New Hardware, then Next to install software for a new hardware device, and Next again to search for any new Plug and Play devices on your system. 3. The next screen will indicate a 'PCI Communication Device', so click Next to search for new drivers. 4. On the next screen select 'Search for the best driver for your device.' and click Next. 5. Select where windows will search for new drivers by clicking Floppy disk drives or CD-ROM drive or Specify a location, then click Next. 6. The next screen indicates the Windows driver file WMCACAA.INF, click Next to continue. 7. The copying process begins and the driver files are copied to the system. The next screen indicates Windows is finished installing the software that your new hardware device requires. Click Finish. 8. The modem defaults to the settings required to work in the United States. If there is a possibility that you will be using your modem outside of the United States, you should install the WorldPort country selection program. Instructions on how to do this are located in the WORLDPORT INSTALLATION section of this file. WINDOWS 95 INSTALLATION ----------------------- 1. Turn on or reboot the computer and the Plug and Play detection will find a PCI Communication Device. Put the driver disk into the floppy drive, then click Next to search for a driver. 2. Windows finds the driver for the Compaq Global MiniPCI 56K (V.90) Modem by 3COM. Click Finish to use this driver. 3. Windows 95 indicates the disk labeled 'Compaq Global MiniPCI 56K (V.90) Modem by 3COM' is now required. Click OK to continue. This begins the file copying process so the Modem driver files are copied to the system. 4. The Copying Files screen asks where to copy the files from, enter the floppy drive path (for example a:\) and click OK. The files will be copied now and installation is complete. 5. The modem defaults to the settings required to work in the United States. If there is a possibility that you will be using your modem outside of the United States, you should install the WorldPort country selection program. Instructions on how to do this are located in the WORLDPORT INSTALLATION section of this file. WINDOWS 95 INSTALLATION ------------------------ Note: This method of installation does not require a computer reboot. 1. From the Control Panel click on Add New Hardware. Then click on Next. 2. Windows asks Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware? Click No, then Next. 3. Select 'Other devices' as the type of hardware you want to install, then click on Next. (Note: DO NOT select 'Modem' as the type of hardware) 4. Windows builds the Driver Information Database, then the next screen asks for the manufacturer and model of the modem. It is not necessary to select the manufacturer or model, just click on Have Disk. 5. The next screen asks for the manufacturer's installation disk. Enter the drive path (for example a:\) and then click OK. 6. Select the Model which is the Compaq Glocal MiniPCI 56K (V.90) Modem by 3COM, then click Next. 7. Windows now indicates the hardware is Plug and Play compatible so just click Next. This starts the copying process and the Modem driver files are copied to the system. 8. The next screen indicates windows has finished installing the software so click finish. 9. From the Control Panel click on the System Icon and choose the Device Manager tab. 10. Click the Refresh button and windows will indicate a PCI communications device has been found and complete the installation. 11. The modem defaults to the settings required to work in the United States. If there is a possibility that you will be using your modem outside of the United States, you should install the WorldPort country selection program. Instructions on how to do this are located in the WORLDPORT INSTALLATION section of this file. WINDOWS 95 and WINDOWS 98 UNINSTALL ----------------------------------- The process to uninstall the modem and remove the driver files is the same for both WINDOWS 95 and WINDOWS 98. 1. To uninstall the modem in Windows 95 or 98, click on System icon in the Control Panel. 2. Click on the Device Manager tab and select the radio button for View devices by type. 3. Click on the Modem device type, then select the Compaq Global MiniPCI (V.90) Modem by 3COM. Then click on Properties. 4. The next screen will have several tabs for the Compaq Global Modem. Select the Country Settings tab, then click on the Uninstall button. The Confirm Device Removal screen is shown next; click OK to remove the device. 5. The next screen indicates the device has been removed, Click OK. WINDOWS 95 AND WINDOWS 98 UPGRADE --------------------------------- How to update the Modem driver: 1. Click on control panel, system, then the Device Manager tab. Click the View Devices by Type radio button and then select the Modem device. Highlight the Compaq Global MiniPCI modem and then click on properties. 2. On the next screen, click on the Driver tab, and then click on Update Driver. The update Device Driver Wizard will search for updated drivers, click next, then the 'search for a better driver' radio button and next again. 3. Select the location of the new driver where windows should search (ie: floppy disk drives) and click next. 4. The updated driver is found so click next to install it. This begins the file copying process and the new drivers are copied into the system directories. Windows indicates it has finished installing the updated driver for the device. Click finish. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WORLDPORT ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WORLDPORT INSTALL ----------------- The process to install the WorldPort modem country selection program is the same for WINDOWS 95, WINDOWS 98, and WINDOWS NT 4.0. 1. From the Start Menu select Run. Browse to the appropiate path and run SETUP.EXE. 2. The installation program will confirm where you want to install WorldPort and where the shortcut icon should be created. Then it will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and give you the option of running WorldPort. 3. The WorldPort modem country selection program can be run by clicking on Start, Programs, Compaq Modem, and WorldPort. To change the country selection for the modem, click on the desired country from the list provided and select OK. Your modem will remember the last country selected as long as the modem itself is not uninstalled or reinstalled. WORLDPORT UNINSTALL ------------------- The process to uninstall the WorldPort modem country selection program is the same for WINDOWS 95, WINDOWS 98, and WINDOWS NT 4.0. 1. To uninstall WorldPort, click on the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel. 2. Select "WorldPort" from the list of software and click the Add/Remove button. 3. Confirm that you want to remove WorldPort by selecting Yes. 4. The next screen will indicate when WorldPort has been removed, Click OK. WORLDPORT UPGRADE ----------------- 1. To upgrade the present WorldPort application you will first need to uninstall. This is done by following the WorldPort Uninstall section as outlined in this document. 2. The second step in upgrading WorldPort is to install the new application. This is done by following the steps as outlined in the WorldPort Install section of this document.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
