The Adaptec FLASH Utility Version 1.1 provides a way to update the Adaptec 
host adapter(s) BIOS on the following Adaptec host adapter(s):

    AHA-2940U             AHA-3940U                AAA-131           
    AHA-2940UW            AHA-3940UW               AAA-132           
    AHA-2944UW            AHA-3940UWD              AAA-133           
						   ARO-1130

This utility is a DOS executable standalone program. The host adapter 
BIOS is located in EEPROM and may be updated with this utility. 
If the supported host adapter(s) is(are) not present in the system, the
flash utility options for that host adapter(s) is disabled.

This flash utility will always reboot the computer once the utility is
executed. So please save all your computer data before starting the utility.

What you need to know about the utility:

1. This flash utility will not run from a DOS Prompt from Windows or OS/2.
2. This flash utility will not run if emm386.exe is loaded in config.sys.
   Unexpected symptoms may occur such as system reboot or hang if emm386.exe
   is loaded.
3. The program will display an error message when trying to open/save/read a
   file from a nonexistent subdirectory. Creation of needed subdirectories is the
   the responsibility of the user. 
4. Delete and Insert keys are not supported. 
5. This flash utility only supports the above listed host adapters using 512K
   (64KX8) EEPROM.

The Adaptec Flash Utility disk contains some of the BIOS images for the host
adapter and the flash utility executable files.

Descriptions of those files are:

1. flash.exe - This is the main executable file for the flash utility.
2. DOS4GW.EXE - This file is the 32-bit Tenberry Software DOS/4GW DOS 
                extender. It's required to use in conjunction with flash.exe
3. afu.msg - A binary message file. 
	     It's required to use in conjunction with flash.exe.  
4. 294X.rom - BIOS image for Adaptec AHA2940U/UW single ended host adapters. 
5. 394X.rom - BIOS image for Adaptec AHA3940U/UW/UWD single ended host adapters.
6. BIOS1000.com - BIOS image for Adaptec Array 1000 Family.
7. readme.txt - This file.


BUG LIST:
1. This flash utility currently have some conflict with Matrox video card.
2. Under certain conditions, a system crash may occur when you warm-boot your
   Windows NT system after using the flash utility to upgrade ARO-1130 BIOS.
   To avoid this, turn off the system after upgrading and do a cold reboot.
3. The flash utility used for updating the ARO-1130 BIOS is on a non-bootable
   diskette. When the flash upgrade is completed, you may need to manually
   reboot the system.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
