Overview

This is the Gateway supported integrated Intel Pro/100 VE network driver for Windows XP and Windows 2000.


Identification

To determine if this is the correct driver to install, check Device Manager.

In Windows XP:

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.

3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters.

6.  If Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection appears under Network adapters, this is the correct driver.

In Windows 2000:

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters.

5.  If Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection appears under Network adapters, this is the correct driver.


Installation

In Windows XP:

1.  The files are extracted to C:\cabs\7512978. 

2.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

3.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.

4.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.  

5.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
    
6.  In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters, and then select Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection.  From the Action menu, click Update Driver.

7.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or a specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

8.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Don't search, I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.

9.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Have Disk.

10.  In the Install From Disk dialog box, type: C:\CABS\7512978.  Click OK.

11.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select the first Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection listed, and then click Next.

12.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, to complete the installation, click Finish.

In Windows 2000:

1.  The files are extracted to C:\cabs\7512978.

2.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  

3.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters, and then double-click Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection.

6.  In the Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

7.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

8.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, select Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver, and then click Next.

9.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Have Disk.

10.  In the Install From Disk dialog box, type: C:\CABS\7512978.  Click OK.

11.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, select Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection, and then click Next.

12.  In the Update Driver Warning dialog box, click Yes.

Note: This driver has been fully tested by Gateway, Intel, and Microsoft.  The compatibility warning can be disregarded.

13.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

14.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Finish.


Removal

In Windows XP:

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.

3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters, and then select Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection.  From the Action menu, click Uninstall.

6.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.

In Windows 2000:

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters, and then select Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection.  From the Action menu, click Uninstall.

5.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.


Troubleshooting

In Windows XP:

Run Network Diagnostics to help determine the network configuration problem.

1.  From the Start menu, point to All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click System Information. 

2.  In the System Information window, from the Tools menu, click Net Diagnostics.

3.  In the Help and Support Center window, click Scan your system.

4.  The results are shown.  Click the plus sign (+) next to Network adapters for additional information. 

Note: Verify whether the link light on the back of the network card is lit.  If not, reseat the cable.  If the light still is not lit, check the cable and the port on the hub or contact your network administrator.

In Windows 2000:

Check your network configuration in System Information.

1.  From the Start menu, point to Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click System Information. 

2.  In the System Information window, click the plus sign (+) next to Network, and then click the Adapter folder.

3.  In the System Information window, in the pane to the right of the Adapter folder, scroll down, and then click Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection.

4.  Check your TCP/IP settings.

Note: Verify whether the link light on the back of the network card is lit.  If not, reseat the cable.  If the light still is not lit, check the cable and the port on the hub or contact your network administrator.


Reason for Update

This driver improves network performance.

Note: Drivers for other operating systems (Windows 9x, Windows ME, and Windows NT(r) 4.0) are included within this driver set.  The drivers not specifically identified above were provided to Gateway by the software publisher and have not been tested by Gateway for any operating system other than those identified above. The driver may not be compatible with your software. Please contact the software publisher for more information.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
