Overview

This is a new video driver for computers with the integrated Intel 8281x (where x is variable) Graphics Adapter video card for Microsoft Windows XP.


Identification

Use the following steps to identify the type of graphics controller.

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display. 

3.  In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.

4.  On the Settings tab, under the graphic of the monitor, the driver is listed as something similar to:

Display:
Gateway EV700 on Intel(r) 8281X (x = variable) Graphics Controller

5.  If your computer has the Intel(r) 8281X (where x is variable) graphics controller, this is the correct driver.


Installation

Download the 7511131.exe file to the desktop, and then perform the following steps. 

1.  On your screen, double-click the 7511131.exe file.

2.  WinZip launches.  Extract the file to the default location, C:\Cabs\7511131.

3.  In the Win-Zip dialog box, click OK.

4.  Close all open programs.

5.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

6.  In Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display. 

7.  In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.

8.  In the Advanced Properties dialog box, click the Adapter tab, and then click Change.

9.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Specify the location, and then click Next.

10.  Click Display a list, and then click Next.

11.  In the Select Device dialog box, click Show All Hardware.

12.  In the Manufacturers list, scroll to the top, and then click Standard display types.  In the Models list, click Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA), and then click Next.

13.  A warning appears stating that this driver was not written specifically for this hardware.  Click Yes.

14.  The location of the standard VGA driver appears as validation that this is the correct file.  Click Next.

15.  Windows prompts you to restart the computer.  Click Yes.

16.  After the computer restarts, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.

17.  In Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.

18.  In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.

19.  In the Advanced Properties dialog box, click the Adapter tab, and then click Change.

20.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Specify the location, and then click Next.

21.  Click Display a list, and then click Next.

22.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Have Disk.

23.  In the Install from Disk dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\7511131. Press the ENTER key.

24.  In the Select Device dialog box, click Intel(r) 8281X (where x is variable) Graphics Controller, and then click OK.

25.  The location of the Intel driver appears as a validation that this is the correct file.  Click Next.

26.  Windows prompts you to restart the computer.  Click Yes.


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.  

3.  In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.

4.  In the Advanced Properties dialog box, click the Adapter tab, and then click Change.

Troubleshooting

If the installation procedure does not work, there may be issues with the downloaded file; for example, it may be corrupted.  Download the file again and ensure that all steps are followed during installation.

This is the initial driver for Windows XP.
