Overview

This is an updated gtwupd.exe file to install Gateway Update, version 3.2.0.8.  Gateway Update is an automated driver update utility that scans your computer and finds the latest drivers for you automatically. 


Installation

1.  If you have not already done so, download the gtwupd.exe file to the desktop, and then perform the following steps. 

2.  First, if a previous version of the Gateway Update is already installed you should remove it.

 a.  Open Control Panel.
      
      From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
      If using the Windows XP Default Start Menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.

 b.  In Control Panel double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
 c.  Locate "Gateway Drivers and Applications Recovery" and/or "Gateway Update". 

 Note: If you do not see this entry, skip down to Step 3 of these instructions.

 d.  Select the entry or entries you find and remove it or them.
 e.  Close all open Windows.

3.  Delete the following folders: C:\Program Files\Gateway\HPA and C:\Program Files\Gateway\SRCD.

 a.  Open Windows Explorer.
      
      Windows 98: From the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
      Windows Me: From the Start menu, point to Programs, Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
      If using Windows XP Default Menu: From the Start menu, point to All Programs, Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
      If using the Windows XP Classic Start Menu, from the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.

 b.  In the Exploring – (C:) dialog box, double-click the (C:) folder, double-click the Program Files folder, and then double-click the Gateway folder.
 c.  In the Gateway dialog box, select the HPA folder, and then from the File menu, click Delete.
 d.  In the Confirm Folder Delete dialog box, click Yes.
 e.  Select the SRCD folder, and then from the File menu, click Delete.
 f.   In the Confirm Folder Delete dialog box, click Yes.
 g.  Close all open windows.
 
4.  If you have not already done so, double-click the gtwupd.exe file on you desktop.  The needed files are self-extracted into the C:\Cabs\Gtwupd folder.
  
5.  Close all open programs.

6.  From the Start menu, click Run.

7.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\Gtwupd\gwmeinst.exe.  Click OK.

8.  The Gateway Update is automatically installed and launched.


Program Use

To start the Gateway Update, use the following steps.

1.  From the Start menu, point to Programs, Gateway Update, and then click Gateway Update.

2.  In the Gateway Update dialog box, select Continue, and then click Check Now to go to the Gateway Support Web site for updated drivers.  Click OK.

3.  In the Gateway Update dialog box, click Check Now.

4.  In the Connect dialog box, select one of the following options:
  
If Internet access is already installed and working on the computer, connect to the Internet, and then click Continue.
If there is not an Internet connection, click Direct Dial.  Wait while the Internet Connection Wizard appears and the computer connects.

5.  Based on the computer hardware IDs, Gateway Update locates the files needed for updating, and then displays the list.  In the Gateway Update dialog box, select a driver to be updated, and then click Install.

6.  In the file Download dialog box, select either Download and Install or Download only, and then click OK.  The preferred method is to click Download and Install, because it is completely automated.

7.  If there are several files to download, click Download only.  Note the location where each executable file is saved on the hard drive.  After all files are downloaded, install each file individually by locating it on the hard drive, and then double-clicking it.


Removal

1.  Open Control Panel.
     
     From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
     If using the Windows XP Default Start Menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.

3.  In the Add or Remove Programs window, select Gateway Update, and then click Change/Remove.

4.  In the Uninstall dialog box, click Yes.

5.  Files remove.

6.  Removal is complete.  No further removal steps are necessary.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty installing this file, perform the following troubleshooting steps. 

1.  Review the preceding software installation procedure.  Ensure that you did not miss any of the steps. 

2.  Restart the computer and then launch Gateway Update again.

3.  Ensure that your operating system is Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows NT, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows XP, as this file is only functional in these operating systems.

4.  If you still have difficulties installing this file, download the file again, and then ensure that all instructions in this document are followed.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
