Overview

This is the updated BIOS for the Profile 3, version 1AAUDP15.


Identification

If you have a Profile 3, you need to upgrade to this BIOS.


Installation

The BIOS should be flashed if:

1.  You are updating to a newer BIOS revision.

2.  A Gateway technician has told you to flash or re-flash the computer.

To flash or re-flash the computer, use the following steps:

1.  On your screen, double-click the BIOS update file that you downloaded. 

2.  The files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\9512766 folder. 

3.  On your screen, double-click the My Computer icon. 

4.  In the My Computer window, double-click the C: icon, double-click the Drivers folder, and then double-click the 9512766 folder. 

5.  In the 9512766 window, from the Edit menu, click Select All. 

6.  In the 9512766 window, from the Edit menu, click Copy. 

7.  Quit all open programs and close all open windows. 

8.  Place a pre-formatted, blank disk in the floppy disk drive. 

9.  On your screen, double-click the My Computer icon. 

10.  In the My Computer window, double-click the A: icon. 

11.  In the A: window, from the Edit menu, click Paste. 

Performing the Update

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click Yes.  Leave the disk in the floppy disk drive while the computer restarts. 

2.  The erasing and writing of files appears on the screen.  When finished, the computer displays an MS-DOS prompt.  Remove the disk from the floppy disk drive. 

3.  Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart the computer. 

4.  After the computer has restarted, press the F2 key in one-second intervals.  If you perform this step correctly, the BIOS Setup Utility menu opens.  If Windows loads normally, shut down Windows, and then repeat this step. 

5.  After entering the BIOS Setup Utility, use the RIGHT ARROW key to select Exit. 

6.  Use the DOWN ARROW key to select Load Defaults Settings, and then press the ENTER key.  At the prompt to Load Defaults Settings, press ENTER. 

7.  Use the DOWN ARROW key to select Exit Saving Changes, and then press the ENTER key.  At the prompt to Exit Saving Changes, press ENTER


Removal

This BIOS is necessary for proper system functionality.  Please do not attempt to remove this update.


Troubleshooting

If the computer does not enter Windows after flashing the BIOS, you may have to load the default settings in the BIOS.  Press the F2 key during the startup process to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.  Press the RIGHT ARROW key until Exit is selected.  Press the DOWN ARROW key until Load Default Settings is selected.  Press the ENTER key.  Press the F10 key to save the settings, and then press ENTER to restart the computer.


Reason for Update

The BIOS was revised to correct a lockup issue during startup when certain PS2 keyboards and mouse devices are connected to the computer

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
