Some of Creative's CT4520 sound cards were made without an EMU8000 controller chip. Some people may experience problems where Win9x detects three devices however only two are recognized, a Sound Blaster and Joystick, and the third device is listed with a Question Mark in Device Manager under Other Devices as "Creative SB16 PnP". Moreover, MIDIs appear to play but there is no sound. There are two folders that address this problem; 1) AWEFlsh which contains a flash program and 2) "sbw9xup" which contains modified drivers. Follow the instructions below.

Win2K/XP:
Apparently, the flash program alone contained in the folder AWEFlsh fully corrects the problem. This program can also be downloaded from Dell at:

ftp://catalogtool:catalog@ftp1.us.dell.com/audio/AWEFlsh.exe

Win9x:
The flash program and modified drivers correct the problem. The folder "sbw9xup" contains modified drivers.

-----
Notes:
After flashing and installing the modified drivers, the CT4520 card changes what's reported from "Creative Sound Blaster 16 Plug and Play" to "Creative AWE64 16-bit Audio (SB16 compatible)". "Creative SB16 PnP" becomes "Creative AWE64 Wavetable MIDI (AWE32 compatible)" and now appears under Sound, video and game controllers. "Creative Gameport Joystick" remains unchanged.
