Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install the NVIDIA GeForce driver version 53.03 in Windows XP and Windows 2000.  The driver is certified with Microsoft WHQL.  


Identification

This driver is for the following video card part numbers and is identified in Device Manager as indicated.

Desktop computers:
6002646: Geforce FX 5950
6002503: Geforce FX 5900
6002579: Geforce FX 5200
6002578: Geforce FX 5200
6002441: Geforce FX 5200

Installation

Download the file to the desktop, and then perform the following steps. 

1.  On the desktop, double-click the 9526407.exe file.

2.  The Win-Zip Self-Extractor window opens, and the files are extracted to C:\Cabs\9526407.

3.  Close all open programs.



Windows XP installation

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel. 
 
2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.

3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon. 
 
4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Display adapters, and then double-click the listed NVIDIA device.

6.  In the NVIDIA Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

7.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or Specific Location (Advanced), and then click Next.

8.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Don't search I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.

9.  In the next dialog box, click Have Disk.

10.  In the Install From Disk dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9526407.  Click OK.

11.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select the appropriate NVIDIA driver for your computer.  Refer to the Identification section for specific designations.  Click Next.

12.  Files copy.

13.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.
 
14.  In the next dialog box, click Close.

15.  When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.



Windows 2000 installation

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, double-click Display adapters, and then double-click the listed NVIDIA device.

Note: If the driver was not previously installed, the video adapter may be listed under Other Devices as Video Controller (VGA Compatible).  If so, double-click Video Controller (VGA Compatible).

5.  In the NVIDIA Properties dialog box, click the Drivers tab, and then click Update Driver.

6.  In the Upgrade Device Wizard dialog box, click Next.

7.  In the next dialog box, select Display a list of the known drivers, and then click Next.

8.  In the next dialog box, from the list, select Display Adapters, and then click Next.

9.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Have Disk.

10.  In the Install from disk dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9526407.  Click OK.
 
11.  In the next dialog box, from the list, select the appropriate NVIDIA driver for your computer.  Refer to the Identification section for specific designations.  Click Next.

12.  In the next dialog box, click Next.

13.  Files copy.

14.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Finish.

15.  In the next dialog box, click Close.

16.  When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.


Removal

1.  Open Control Panel.
 
 a.  In Windows XP, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.
 b.  In Windows 2000, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.

3.  In the Add or Remove Programs window, select NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP display driver, and then click Change/Remove.

4.  In the NVIDIA Uninstall dialog box, click Yes.

5.  When prompted to restart the computer, click OK.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty during or after the driver installation, perform the following troubleshooting steps. 

1.  Verify that all cables are securely connected.  

2.  Follow the removal procedure in this document, and then reinstall the drive using the installation instructions in this document.

To update the video card driver to the latest Gateway supported driver.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
