Overview

This is the audio driver for the Gateway Midway, Midway Plus, Starbreeze, & Nimitz 2 motherboards.


Identification

To confirm that this is the correct audio driver update for your desktop computer, perform the following steps:

If the computer is turned off:

1.  Turn on the computer, and then repeatedly press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

2.  In the BIOS Setup Utility on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to read BF86510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx or SR84510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x represents variable characters).  The BIOS prefix BF86510A or SR84510A is constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

3.  If this is correct, this is the correct audio driver for your computer.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.

If the computer is turned on and in Windows:

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select Restart, and then click Yes.

2.  As soon as the computer restarts, on your keyboard, repeatedly press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

3.  In the BIOS Setup Utility on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to read BF86510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx or SR84510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x represents variable characters).  The BIOS prefix BF86510A or SR84510A is constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

4.  If this is correct, this is the correct audio driver for your motherboard.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.


Installation

1.  Download the 9521983.exe file to the desktop.

2.  On the desktop, double-click the 9521983.exe file.  The needed files are expanded to the C:\Cabs\9521983 folder.

Windows XP:

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel. 
 
2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance. 

3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound video and game controllers, and then double-click SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio.

6.  In the SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Properties dialog box, click the Drivers tab, and then click Update Driver.

7.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

8.  In the next dialog box, select Don't search I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.

9.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Have Disk.

10.  In the Install From Disk dialog box in the text box, type: C:\Cabs\9521983.  Click OK.

11.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, to install the driver, click Next.

12.  Files copy.

13.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.


Windows 2000:

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound video and game controllers, and then double-click Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio.

5.  In the Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio Properties dialog box, click the Drivers tab, and then click Update Driver.

6.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

7.  In the next dialog box, select Don't search I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.

8.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Have disk.

9.  In the Install From Disk dialog box in the text box, type: C:\Cabs\9521983.  Click OK.

10.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, to install the driver, click Next.

11.  Files copy.

12.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.


Removal

Removal of the sound driver can be accomplished using the Add/Remove Programs option in Control Panel.  However, after installing the Integrated SoundMAX Digital Audio drivers, and then removing the drivers, the operating system installs or attempts to install the drivers again when the computer restarts.  The most effective way to remove this version of the drivers is to update to a newer version.  


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty installing the new driver, download the file again, and then perform the installation steps.
