Overview

This driver installs INF files that outline to the operating system how the chipset components are to be configured.  This is needed for proper functionality of the following features:

Core PCI and ISAPNP services
AGP support
IDE/ATA33/ATA66 storage support
USB support
Identification of Intel chipset components in Device Manager

One of the following operating systems must be installed on the computer:

Windows 98 SE 4.10.2222 (original release)
Windows Me 4.90.3000 (original release)
Windows 2000 5.00.2195 (original release)
Windows XP 5.10.2600 (release to manufacturing (RTM))

The version of the software installed can be identified by examining the following registry location:

Key name: \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel\InfInst
Value name: Version


Installation

1.  Download the file to the desktop.

2.  On the desktop, double-click the 7512448.exe file.  The needed files are extracted into the C:\Cabs\7512448 folder.

3.  From the Start menu, click Run.

4.  In the Run dialog box, in the Open text box, type: C:\Cabs\7512448\Setup.exe.  Click OK.

5.  In the Setup dialog box, click Next.

6.  In the Software License Agreement dialog box, to accept the terms of the license agreement and continue, click Yes.

7.  In the Readme Information dialog box, click Next.

8.  In the Setup Complete dialog box, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and then click Finish.

9.  After restarting, new hardware is found, and the new drivers are automatically installed.


Removal

Because the Intel INF Installation Utility provides installation information needed for proper functionality of multiple system devices, removal is not recommended. 


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulties installing this update, download the file again, and then ensure that all instructions in this document are followed.

This is the initial Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility qualified for the Profile 4, some Gateway 300, 500, and 700 Series computers, Gateway E-2000, E-4000, E-4650, and E-6000 Series computers.
