CSBFC1000 - ConnectCom Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter. Description of Driver Installation Files ======================================== The latest versions of these files are contained in the Support section of the ConnectCom web site (http://www.connectcom.net). adv909.txt This installation instruction file txtsetup.oem Driver setup script file: for use during the text setup phase of Windows NT installation. adv909.inf Driver setup script file: for use during the Windows phase of Windows NT installation, or for installing drivers during normal operations of Windows NT. adv909.sys ConnectCom FC100-FCP-SCSI Miniport Driver diskw Driver name file Creating the Windows NT4 Installation Diskettes =============================================== Windows NT4 requires several installation diskettes as well as the SCSI driver diskette described below. If you do not have these Windows NT4 installation diskettes, they can be created from DOS using WINNT.EXE or from Windows NT4 using WINNT32.EXE. These commands can be found on the Windows NT4 installation CD. DOS: WINNT.EXE /OX WINDOWS NT: WINNT32.EXE /OX Creating the "Windows NT4 ConnectCom Driver" Diskette =================================================== NOTE: You can skip this step if you have the ConnectCom release diskette. It is already set up as a driver diskette to allow you to install the ConnectCom driver. To create a driver diskette for installing the ConnectCom Driver to a new or existing Windows NT4 system, copy all of the Windows NT4 driver files (txtsetup.oem, adv909.inf, adv909.sys) to the top directory of a DOS formatted floppy diskette. Label the diskette "ConnectCom FC1000-FCP-SCSI Driver for NT4.0" and also record the driver version number for future references. New Windows NT4: Driver Installation =================================== This is the instruction for installing Windows NT4 onto a new Fibre Channel SCSI drive connected to one of the above listed adapters. The Windows NT4 setup can be started by booting from the "Windows NT Installation" diskettes, or by booting from the Windows NT4 CD-ROM. (Booting from a SCSI CD-ROM requires that the CD-ROM is connected to a SCSI Adapter that has its CD Boot feature enabled: hit Ctrl-A when the ConnectCom's AdvanSys SCSI Adapter BIOS banner shows up to see what features are enabled.) When the Windows NT4 text-phase setup first initiate, hit the F6 key immediately after the first blue text setup screen appears. This will allow installation of Fibre Channel and SCSI adapter drivers during the text-phase setup. ** Note ** : If you are booting off of a CD-ROM drive connected to any of the ConnetCom's AdvanSys SCSI adapters, you will have to add driver for that adapter as well. At some point during the text-phase setup, you will be asked whether you want to: "Specify Additional Driver". Answer yes by selecting 'S' and a list of drivers will be presented. From this list select "Other". When asked to enter a diskette, insert the ConnectCom Driver diskette. Repeat this step if you have more than one driver. If a ConnectCom adapter is found and the driver is successfully loaded, Windows NT4 will display a message indicating that the driver was loaded. After this message is displayed, press "Enter" to continue the installation. Existing Windows NT4: Driver Installation ========================================= Note: Before you begin, you need an account with administrative privileges to install these NT drivers onto your system. Install the adapter into your computer before installing the driver. Place the "Windows NT4 ConnectCom Driver" Diskette into the A:\ drive. Go to control panel, double-click on SCSI Adapters. In SCSI Adapters, select the Drivers tab and click on Add. (If replacing drivers, select the driver to be replaced and click on Remove. Do this before adding the replacement driver) In the Install Driver window, click on "Have Disk". Type in "A:\" and click OK. Select the appropriate driver from the list and click OK. Restart the computer. Determining the ConnectCom Driver Version ======================================= To determine the version number of the ConnectCom Windows NT driver use the File Manager to look at the "Properties->Version" of the ConnectCom driver file \X\system32\drivers\adv909.sys. X is the directory of the currently running Windows NT system. X is typically \WINNT. The File Manager "View" options setting must be set to "All Files" to allow "adv909.sys" to be visible in the directory "drivers".
