We do not recommend flashing your bios if EVERYTHING IS RUNNING FINE for you. Sometimes,
the latest bios upgrade may NOT be fully compatible with some of your existing peripherals
and cards, inevitably causing you many problems when restoring your system. We do reccomend
upgrading your bios when you are having problems with your current configuration or are
having problems in the installation of a new card or peripheral. However, do this as a
last resort since most of your problems are due to other factors such as conflicting
IRQs, missing or outdated drivers and other non-bios related errors.

Before downloading and "flashing" your bios, we suggest you do the following things:
(1) Make sure you have downloaded the correct file for your board
(2) Make sure you have read our instructions on using our flash bios utilities and
(3) Have a copy of pkunzip.exe around so you can decompress our files.

AWARD FLASH BIOS INSTRUCTIONS------------------------------------------
(1) It is important to have the system boot cleanly before executing a flash bios upgrade since it should not be run under any protected mode environments. The best way to do this is to create a bootable floppy disk i.e. "Format a: /s" (in dos) or use the Windows95 startup disk utility START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS>STARTUP DISK.

(2) Download the Flash BIOS update utility from our bios revision web page.

(3) Uncompress this file with the pkunzip.exe utility and you should see some new files appearing on your harddrive. Copy these new files onto your bootable disk.

(4) Reboot your system with this bootable floppy disk in your A: drive. (You might have to change the boot up sequence (in BIOS setup) from C:A: to A:C: before reboot.)

(5) After bootup, run the program (.exe) file from the floppy disk.

(6) Follow the onscreen instructions and it will ask for the name of the BIOS file (filename.bin). So enter the entire filename and confirm that you want to program the BIOS. (If there are two .bin files, choose the correct (L or S) version. Identify your bios version by rebooting your computer and looking at the release date for your bios. You will find a L or S at the end of the release date e.g. 07/21/1996L or 07/21/96S. If you have mistakenly used the wrong bios, you will have to send back your board for repairs. (Check your vendor for details) and press ENTER.

(6)Answer YES, when the screen asks if you would like to save the BIOS. This option is highly recommended since if anything goes wrong you can reinstall the original BIOS from the backup file. You can type in something like “backup.bin”

(7) Answer YES, when the screen asks you if it is OK to program. Make sure when it is programming that you do not turn off or reset the computer or else your bios will be damaged. You should see a progress bar and the lower half of the screen and then it will prompt you to reset.

(8) You should be able to see new BIOS version display on the screen when when you reboot your system. Press <del> and setup your bios again.

(6) Enter the name of the bios file (.rom) that is located on your boot disk.

(7) Press “Y” to continue and it should tell you that it is “Programming Flash Eprom - Please Wait.”

(8) When completed it will give you a flash successful message and ask you to hit any key to reboot. Hit any key and the system should hang with no pictures on the screen. You will need to “cold boot” (turn off the power, wait and turn on the system again) your system for the new bios to take effect.
