Overview

This firmware updates the Gateway DVD Recorder AR-230 with a serial number in the sequence of [xxxx-01xx-xxxx-XXXX(xxx-xxx)] to version 1086 of the firmware. This version of firmware is meant to update version 1139 systems to version 1086 systems.

Note: If your DVD recorder lists as having firmware version 11.43 installed, this upgrade is not applicable to your unit. All of the upgrades have already been applied to your DVD recorder. See the Identification section below for information on how to check you firmware revision.

Note: If your serial number is within this series [xxxx-11xx-xxxx(xxx-xxx)] or [xxxx-11xx-xxxx-XXXX(xxx-xxx)], this firmware will not upgrade your DVD recorder.

Identification

To check the version of firmware on the Gateway DVD Recorder, use the following steps.

1. Turn the DVD Recorder on.

2. Pressing the setup button on the remote control to enter the Setup screen.

3. On the first Setup screen, there are numbers at the bottom of the screen. The number set in the middle of the line beginning with "SN:" will be 1139.

4. This version of firmware is meant to update version 1139 systems to version 1086 systems.

Installation

1. Download and double-click the GWEA1086.exe file.

2. The needed files extract to the C:\Cabs\GWEA1086 folder.

3. Using Windows Explorer, browse to the C:\Cabs\GWEA1086 folder. Using whichever method you have available, such as Nero CD-RW software, Roxio CD-RW software, or Windows XP integrated support, copy all files from the GWEA1086 folder to a CD-R disc.

Program Use

To update the version of firmware on the Gateway DVD Recorder, use the following steps.

1. Turn the DVD Recorder on.

2. Use the Open/Close button to open the DVD Recorder's drive.

3. Insert the DVD Recorder firmware update disc into the DVD Recorder.

4. Close the DVD tray using the Open/Close button.

5. When the on-screen menu appears, use the arrow buttons on the remote control to select OK, and then press the ENTER button on the remote control.

6. Allow the CD to upgrade the unit. Do not turn off the system while upgrading.

7. After the CD is ejected from the DVD Recorder, remove the firmware update CD.

8. The update dialog box disappears but the system does not show the complete dialog (only shows the logo instead) and the progress on the LED display may stay at 93 to 98 percent. If this happens, ensure that both the logo is displayed on the screen and that the progress on the LED is at 93 to 98 percent, and then unplug the power cord to the AR-230 unit. Plug the power cord back into the AR-230 unit.

9. Power the DVD Recorder on.

10. The firmware has been updated properly to 1086.

Removal

This is a firmware update. There are no removal instructions, as this firmware is necessary for operation.
