Overview

This file is an updated driver for the Hauppauge TV Tuner qualified for the Gateway FMC-901 Series Media Center computer.  These drivers are required for the TV options to work in the Media Center operating system for this computer.
 

Identification

Use the following steps to confirm that this is the correct driver update for your desktop computer.

If the computer is turned off:

1.  Turn on the computer.  On your keyboard, repeatedly press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

2.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to list  Pxx.CEFF (where x is variable characters).

3.  If this is correct, this is the correct driver for your computer.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.

If the computer is turned on and in Windows:

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select Restart, and then click Yes.

2.  As soon as the computer restarts, on your keyboard, repeatedly press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

3.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to list Pxx.CEFF (where x is variable characters).

4.  If this is correct, this is the correct driver for your computer.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.
 

Installation

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.

3.  In the Performance and Maintenance window, click System.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, select the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.  

5.  In the Device Manager window, double-click Sound, video and game controllers.

6.  In the list of Sound, video and game controller devices, double-click Hauppauge WinTV 88x (Unused Function). 

7.  In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x Audio Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

8.  In the Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

9.  In the Please choose your search and installation options dialog box, perform the following actions:

 a. Select Search for the best driver in these locations.  
 b. If selected, click to clear the check box for Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM,...).
 c. Select Include this location in the search.
 d. In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\9526546.
 e. Click Next when all previous steps are complete.

10.  In the Completing the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.

11.  In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x Audio Properties dialog box, click Close.

12.  In the list of Sound, video and game controller devices, double-click Hauppauge WinTV 88x Crossbar. 

13.  In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x Crossbar Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

14.  In the Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

15.  In the Please choose your search and installation options dialog box, perform the following actions:

 a. Select Search for the best driver in these locations.  
 b. If selected, click to clear the check box for Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM,...).
 c. Select Include this location in the search.
 d. In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\9526546.
 e. Click Next when all previous steps are complete.

16.  In the Completing the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.

17.  In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x Crossbar Properties dialog box, click Close.

18.  In the list of Sound, video and game controller devices, double-click Hauppauge WinTV 88x MPEG Encoder. 

19.  In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x MPEG Encoder Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

20.  In the Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

21.  In the Please choose your search and installation options dialog box, perform the following actions:

 a. Select Search for the best driver in these locations.  
 b. If selected, click to clear the check box for Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM,...).
 c. Select Include this location in the search.
 d. In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\9526546.
 e. Click Next when all previous steps are complete.

22.  In the Completing the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.

23.  In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x Tuner Properties dialog box, click Close. 

24.  In the list of Sound, video and game controller devices, double-click Hauppauge WinTV 88x Tuner. 

25.  In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x Tuner Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

26.  In the Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

27.  In the Please choose your search and installation options dialog box, perform the following actions:

 a. Select Search for the best driver in these locations.
 b. If selected, click to clear the check box for Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM,...).
 c. Select Include this location in the search.
 d. In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\9526546.
 e. Click Next when all previous steps are complete.

28.  In the Completing the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.

29.  In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x Tuner Properties dialog box, click Close.

30.  In the list of Sound, video and game controller devices, double-click Hauppauge WinTV 88x Video (MPEG+Front).

31. In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x Video (MPEG+Front) Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

32. In the Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

33. In the Please choose your search and installation options dialog box, perform the following actions:

 a. Select Search for the best driver in these locations.
 b. If selected, click to clear the check box for Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM,...).
 c. Select Include this location in the search.
 d. In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\9526546.
 e. Click Next when all previous steps are complete.

34. In the Completing the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.

35. In the Hauppauge WinTV 88x Video (MPEG+Front) Properties dialog box, click Close. 

36.  This completes the update of the Hauppauge TV Tuner to version 2.92.21350.0.  Shut down Windows and restart the computer to initialize the updated drivers.


Removal

The drivers can only be removed under the Drivers tab for the Device Properties in the Device Manager.  The drivers are automatically reinstalled upon restarting the computer or executing the scan for devices in the Device Manager.  These drivers are required for Media Center functionality.  Removal of the drivers is not recommended.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty installing the new driver, download the file again, and then perform the installation steps.

Note: If these drivers have been previously installed by the automated installation or restoration process using the All-in-One DVD for the FMC-901 Version 1.3 or newer, the installation process identified previously in this file does not update the drivers because they are already installed.  Please verify the version of driver installed.  The driver version is identified in the Device Properties in the Device Manager.   


Reason for Update

This is an update to the original version of the Hauppauge TV Tuner driver that initially shipped with the FMC-901 Media Center PC.
