Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install and configure the display drivers for the Gateway 610 in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center.


Identification

If you have a Gateway 610 computer and are running Windows XP, install these drivers. 

To see which version of driver you currently have installed, perform these steps:

1.  From the Start menu, click Run.  

2.  In the Run dialog box, type: dxdiag.  Click OK.

3.  In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click the Display tab.

4.  On the right hand side of the Display tab in the Drivers section, the driver version and date are listed.


Installation 

Note: The installation consists of two procedures.  The first is for installation of the ATI display driver.  The second is the installation of the ATI Control Panel, which installs advanced options such as TV-OUT options.

After you have downloaded and double-clicked the file (9524858.exe), files are self-extracted and copied into the C:\Cabs\9524858 folder on the hard drive.

Driver Installation

1.  From the Start menu, click Run.

2.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9524858\Driver\Setup.exe.  Click OK.

3.  In the Welcome to ATI InstallShield Wizard dialog box, click Next.

4.  In the License Agreement dialog box, after reading the agreement, if you agree to its terms, click Yes. 

5.  The driver is copied and installed.

6.  In the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog box, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and then click Finish.


ATI Control Panel Installation

1.  From the Start menu, click Run.

2.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9524858\Cpanel\Setup.exe.  Click OK.

3.  In the Welcome to ATI InstallShield Wizard dialog box, click Next.

4.  In the License Agreement dialog box, after reading the agreement, if you agree to the terms, click Yes.  

5.  In the Choose Destination Location dialog box, click Next.

6.  The ATI Control Panel files are copied and installed.

7.  In the ATI Control Panel Setup box, to add a Shortcut click OK or to not create a shortcut, click Cancel.

8.  In the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog box, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and then click Finish.


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs. 

3.  In the Add or Remove Programs window, select ATI Control Panel, and then click Change/Remove. 

4.  In the ATI Control Panel Setup dialog box, select Remove, and then click Next. 

5.  In the Confirm File Deletion dialog box, click OK. 

6.  ATI Control Panel is removed.

7.  When complete, select No, I will restart my computer later, and then click Finish.

8.  Return to Add or Remove Programs.  Select ATI Display Driver, and then click Change/Remove. 

9.  In the ATI Uninstall dialog box, to remove the driver, click Yes. 

10.  The driver is removed.

11.  In the ATI Uninstall dialog box, to restart the computer, click Yes. 


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then re-install the drivers.  Ensure that you perform each step. 


Reason for Update

This is the initial release of the drivers.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
