Overview
========
This is the initial Intel Extreme Graphics driver for the Intel 845G (Essex and Essex 2 motherboards) and Intel 845GL chipset (Nimitz and Dasher motherboards).  


Identification
==============
Use the following steps to confirm that this is the correct graphics driver update for your desktop computer.

If the computer is turned off:

1.  Turn on the computer.  On your keyboard, repeatedly press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

2.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to list RG84510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx or LY84510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters).  The BIOS prefix RG84510A or LY84510A is constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

3.  If this is correct, this is the correct graphics driver for your computer.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.

If the computer is turned on and in Windows:

1.  From the Start menu, click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select Restart, and then click Yes.

2.  As soon as the computer restarts, on your keyboard, repeatedly press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

3.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, on the Main tab, look for the BIOS version line.  The version needs to list RG84510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx or LY84510A.xxx.xxxx.Pxx (where x is variable characters).  The BIOS prefix RG84510A or LY84510A is constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

4.  If this is correct, this is the correct graphics driver for your motherboard.  Press the F10 key to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.


Installation
============
For Windows XP:

1.  From the Start menu, click Run.

2.  In the Run dialog box, type the path and location of the file 9521846.exe.  (Example: C:\Cabs\9521846.exe).  Click OK.  The files extract to the C:\Cabs\9521846 directory. 

3.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

4.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance. 

5.  In the Performance and Maintenance window, click the System icon.

6.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

7.  In the Device Manager window, under Display adapters, double-click the Intel(r) 82845G Graphics Controller.  

Note: If Intel drivers have not been installed previously, the Display adapter is identified under Other Devices as Video Controller (VGA Compatible).

8.  In the Intel(r) 82845G Graphics Controller Properties dialog box, click on the Driver tab.  

9.  Under the Driver tab, click Update Driver.

10.  In the Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

11.  In the next Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click to clear the check mark from Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM...).  Click Include this location in the search.

12.  In the text box, type the path and location of the driver.  Example: C:\Cabs\9521846.  Click Next.

13.  In the Completing the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.

14.  In the Intel(r) 82845G Graphics Controller Properties dialog box, click Close. 

15.  In the System Settings Change dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer.

16.  After the computer restarts, the updated drivers initialize and any desired display settings different from the default values can be made.

For Windows 2000:

1.  From the Start menu, click Run.

2.  In the Run dialog box, type the path and location of the file 9521846.exe.  (Example: C:\Cabs\9521846.exe).  Click OK.  The files extract to the C:\Cabs\9521846 directory. 

3.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

4.  In the Control Panel, double-click the Display icon.

5.  In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.

6.  In the Plug and Play Monitor and Intel(r) 82845G/GL Graphics Controller Properties dialog box, click the Adapter tab, and then click Properties.

7.  In the Intel(r) 82845G/GL Graphics Controller Properties dialog box, click on the Driver tab.

8.  On the Driver tab, click Update Driver.

9.  In the Welcome to the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard Welcome dialog box, click Next.

10.  In the Install Hardware Device Drivers dialog box, use the recommended setting (Search for a suitable driver for my device), and then click Next.

11.  In the Locate Driver Files dialog box, click Specify a Location only, and then click Next.

12.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, under the Copy manufacturer's files from area, type: C:\Cabs\9521846.  Click OK.

13.  In the Driver Files Search Results dialog box, click Next.

14.  After the files have been copied, in the Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Finish. 

15.  In the Intel(r) 82845G Graphics Controller Properties dialog box, click Close.

16.  In the System Setting Change dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer.

17.  The drivers should be installed.  Make the need adjustments to the desired color depth and resolution on the Display Properties Settings tab.  


Removal
========
Removal of the Intel Extreme Graphics Driver can be accomplished in Control Panel, using the Add or Remove Programs option.  


Troubleshooting
===============
If you have difficulty installing the new driver, download the file again, and then perform the installation steps.


Reason for Update
=================
This is the initial driver qualified for the 300 Series (Nimitz and Dasher motherboards), and 500 Series (Essex motherboard)  
computers.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
